Whenever one suffers from a stabbing pain in the ear, it is all due to Wind pathogen invading the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (Kidney Channel of Foot-Shaoyin). If left untreated, the pathogen flows into the Kidney, suddenly causing stiffness of the spine and straightening of the back, developing into Jing Disease (spasm disease characterized by neck and back rigidity and opisthotonos).
If swelling occurs due to the pain, leading to the formation of carbuncles or furuncles, and the pus breaks out with the dissipation of the pathogenic factor, Jing Disease will not develop. The reason for this is that the Foot-Shaoyin Meridian is the channel of the Kidney, where numerous vessels converge, and its Qi connects with the ear. When Wind-Evil resides in the Upper Jiao, it enters the head and brain, flows into the ear, and clashes with the body's Qi, causing pain in the ear. Since the ear is the external manifestation of the Kidney, their Qi is interconnected; as the Kidney governs the waist and spine and dominates bone marrow, when the pathogen flows into the Kidney, it results in spinal stiffness and back straightening.
Earwax (Cerumen) is formed by the condensation of fluids in the ear. Everyone has it; mild cases do not cause harm. However, if invaded by Wind-Heat, it hardens into nodules that block the ear canal, also causing sudden deafness.
The Foot-Shaoyin Meridian is the channel of the Kidney, and its Qi connects with the ear. If this meridian is deficient, Wind-Heat takes advantage of the deficiency, entering the ear along the vessels and clashing with Blood and Qi, thus causing ear diseases.
Toothache refers to pain radiating between the teeth. Teeth are the extremities of bones, nourished by Marrow-Qi. The branch of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian enters the teeth. If Marrow-Qi is insufficient and the Yangming pulse is weak, failing to nourish the teeth, they become injured by Cold-Wind, resulting in pain. Additionally, if worms eat away at the teeth, holes form at the tooth roots where the worms reside, spreading to other teeth and causing continuous pain. In such cases, acupuncture and moxibustion are ineffective; only applying topical medication to kill the worms will stop the pain.

If the pulse is weak and Marrow-Qi is insufficient, injury by Cold-Wind causes pain. Furthermore, if worms erode the teeth, holes form at the roots where the worms reside, spreading to other teeth and causing unbearable pulling pain. For worm-induced toothache, acupuncture and moxibustion cannot cure it; only applying topical medication to kill the worms stops the pain.
The branch of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian enters the teeth, which are the extremities of bones nourished by Marrow-Qi. If Cold-Wind lodges in the meridians, damaging the Marrow and allowing Cold Qi to enter the tooth roots, toothache occurs. If the pain is caused by worms, holes appear at the roots where the worms reside; acupuncture and moxibustion are ineffective here, and only killing the worms with topical medication stops the pain. Regarding decoctions, hot compresses, acupuncture, and stone needles, there are separate specific formulas. Methods of tonification, nourishment, and guidance are attached below.
The *Yangsheng Fang* (Prescriptions for Nourishing Life) states: On days corresponding to one's birth year branch, at the beginning of combing hair, tap the teeth nine times while silently reciting the incantation: "Tai Di scatters spiritual energy, Wu Lao returns to truth; Niwan Xuan Hua preserves essence for long life; Left Ju hides the moon, Right Yin draws the root; Liu He is pure and refined, Bai Shen receives grace." After the incantation, swallow saliva three times. Practicing this regularly prevents toothache, keeps hair firm and white-free, and prevents headache.
The *Yangsheng Fang · Daoyin Fa* (Guidance and Pulling Method) states: Sit facing East, hold breath four times, and grind the teeth fourteen times (two sevens). This treats toothache. Open the mouth wide, grind the teeth fourteen times, counting this as one cycle, repeated twice. Another interpretation suggests that during the four breath-holding intervals, perform the fourteen grinding movements, regulating intent and respiration, so that the illness heals and pain ceases. Upon recovery, teeth remain fresh, white, intact, and not loose. Long-term practice without cessation can break through diamond-like hardness (symbolizing extreme resilience or strength).
It also states: Sit facing East, hold breath four times, and grind the teeth up and down thirty-six times. This treats toothache.
