The Lung Qi connects with the nose. When the Lung organ is invaded by wind-cold pathogenic factors, the nasal Qi becomes disordered, and body fluids (Jin-Ye) become stagnant and obstructed, resulting in the formation of nasal polyps (bi rou). For such conditions, treatments involving decoction compresses, moxibustion/heat therapy, acupuncture, or stone needles have specific prescriptions. Methods of tonification, nourishment, and guided breathing exercises are attached hereafter.
According to the "Guided Breathing Method" in *Yang Sheng Fang*: Sit upright with the spine extended, slowly inhale through the nose, gently pinch the nostrils with the right hand, and slowly exhale while closing the eyes. This practice can treat dim vision, painful tearing, nasal polyps, and deafness; it can also treat headaches and aversion to cold associated with Cold Damage (Shang Han). The treatment should be considered complete when sweating occurs.
It further states: Sit facing east, perform three cycles of breath retention, and pinch both nostrils with the hands. This treats nasal polyps.
The Lung Qi connects with the nose. If the Lung organ is injured by wind-cold, the nasal Qi fails to flow freely and smoothly, leading to stagnation and the formation of polyps. Cold Qi accumulates and clashes with blood and Qi, causing polyps to grow. When cold Qi is excessive, polyps proliferate, causing obstruction and blockage of respiratory airflow.
Body fluids, nasal discharge, saliva, and sputum dry out when exposed to heat but flow excessively and cannot be controlled when exposed to cold. Since Lung Qi connects with the nose, if there is cold within the Lung, the cold follows the Qi into the nose, causing body fluids and nasal discharge to fail to remain contained.
Lung Qi connects with the nose. Wind pathogens enter the nose along with the Qi, clashing with blood and Qi. The struggle between pathogenic factors and healthy Qi prevents the free flow of the airway, resulting in nasal pain.
The nasopharynx (hang sang) communicates with the nasal passages. During inhalation, if food has not yet passed down the throat, or due to speech, belching, or coughing which causes Qi to rebel upwards, food may accidentally fall into the nose due to this rebellious Qi.
The Kidney belongs to the Foot-Shaoyin meridian and stores Essence (Jing); its Qi connects with the ears. The ear is the gathering point of numerous meridians. If Essence and Qi are harmonious, the Kidneys are strong, and the ears can hear the five tones. However, if labor and injury damage blood and Qi, compounded by exposure to wind pathogens, the Kidneys are damaged and Essence escapes. When Essence escapes, deafness results. Furthermore, among the Zang-Fu organs and the Twelve Primary Meridians, those with collaterals connecting to the ears experience a merging of Yin and Yang meridian Qi. When they merge, Zang Qi rebels, a state termed "Jue" (reversal). When Jue Qi clashes and enters the meridians of the ear, it causes deafness.
In cases of deafness due to Kidney disease and Essence escape, observe the cheeks and zygomatic arches for a blackish color. In cases of deafness caused by abnormal pulsation of the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao meridian and rebellious Qi, the symptom is a buzzing sound in the ears. In cases of deafness caused by rebellion of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine meridian, the symptom is deafness accompanied by a sensation of fullness and air entering the ear. Treatments involving decoction compresses, heat therapy, acupuncture, or stone needles have specific prescriptions. Methods of tonification, nourishment, and guided breathing exercises are attached hereafter.
*Yang Sheng Fang* states: Do not block old wells or water ditches, as this can cause people to become deaf and blind.
The "Guided Breathing Method" in *Yang Sheng Fang* states: Sit on the ground, cross your feet, insert both hands from between the bent knees, lower your head, and cross your hands behind your neck. This treats chronic coldness where the body cannot warm itself and hearing loss.
It further states: Place your feet above your neck and perform twelve cycles of breath retention. This will certainly cure severe cold without feeling warmth, chronic stubborn cold conditions, deafness, and vertigo. Long-term practice establishes this method; persisting for five or six months leads to fundamental physical transformation.
