Feng Ye (Wind Dragging) refers to the symptom of flaccidity and laxity of the limbs, where they cannot be controlled or gathered. The human body relies on Stomach Qi (Stomach Energy) to nourish the muscles and meridians. If Stomach Qi is weakened and damaged, its energy becomes insufficient; when the meridians are deficient, the muscles and sinews become slack and inert. Therefore, Wind Evil (Pathogenic Wind) combats with the sinews, causing Feng Ye (limb flaccidity).
Feng Bu Ren (Wind Insensitivity) arises from a deficiency of Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) and an excess of Wei Qi (Defensive Qi). When Wind-Cold pathogens enter the muscles, they cause the blood and qi to fail in circulating freely and smoothly. Its manifestation is such that when the skin is scratched, it feels as if there is clothing between the hand and the skin. Palpating the Cun Kou pulse (radial artery at the wrist) and finding it slow indicates skin insensitivity. For cases of Bu Ren (insensitivity), if the pulse is deficient and rapid, the prognosis is good (survival); if the pulse is firm, urgent, and rapid, the prognosis is poor (death). Regarding treatments involving decoctions, external applications, moxibustion/heat therapy, acupuncture, and stone needles, there are separate specific formulas. Methods for tonification, nourishment, and Daoyin (guiding and pulling exercises) are attached below.
The *Yangsheng Fang* (Prescriptions for Nourishing Life) · *Daoyin Fa* (Methods of Guiding and Pulling) states: Chisongzi said: Lie supine, extend both calves and hands, spread the heels outward, and face the toes toward each other. Inhale air through the nose, exerting oneself fully for seven breaths. This eliminates dead flesh, insensitivity, and cold feet.
It also states: Extend both feet upward. This cures diseases of insensitivity and cold shins.
The condition of Fengshi Bi (Wind-Dampness Obstruction Syndrome) presents with either hard and thickened skin or sore and painful muscles. The three pathogens—Wind, Cold, and Dampness—mix and invade together, combining to form Bi syndrome. When the pathogenic factors of Wind-Dampness are predominant and Cold is less, it is called Fengshi Bi. This occurs because blood and qi are deficient, making the body susceptible to Wind-Dampness invasion, thereby forming this disease. If not cured for a long time, the pathogen enters the meridians and combats the Yang meridians, potentially changing into a state where the body and limbs lose motor control. Regarding treatments involving decoctions, external applications, heat therapy, acupuncture, and stone needles, there are separate specific formulas. Methods for tonification, nourishment, and Daoyin are attached below.
The *Yangsheng Fang* · *Daoyin Fa* states: Let the arms hang naturally, hold the breath twelve times. This cures damp-Bi of the feet preventing walking, and Bi pain of the waist and spine. Also, lie supine normally, stack both hands under the back, extend both legs, and hold the breath twelve times. This cures damp-Bi of the feet preventing walking, and Bi pain of the waist and spine. For patients with hemiplegia, if the left side is affected, press the right foot; if the right side is affected, press the left foot. Practicing for a long time allows the hands to function like the feet, stopping after completing ten directions.
It also states: Massage the abdomen with the hands, moving from the feet to the head. Lie supine normally, bend the arms for Daoyin, hold the feet with the hands to keep them stationary, let the arms hang naturally, close the mouth and hold the breath twelve times. This treats damp-Bi preventing movement and waist-spine pain.
