Sores arise on the two ears of children, healing and recurring intermittently, sometimes with pus discharge. This is caused by the struggle between wind-dampness (Fengshi) and blood and qi (Xueqi), and is also commonly called "Moon-eating Sore" (Yueshi Chuang).
When there is heat in the five zang organs of a child, it steams and erupts into the skin; externally, it is constrained by wind-dampness, causing damp-heat to struggle within the body. The sores initially appear very small, later producing pus, spreading and gradually enlarging through exudation; thus, they are called "Spreading Sores" (Jinyin Chuang).
When there is heat in the fu and zang organs, the heat steams the skin, and when externally invaded by dampness, sores transform and arise. If the heat is particularly prevalent, the onset of the sores becomes vigorous. Initially resembling hemp seeds, they quickly swell and enlarge, with fluid flowing and ulcerating, as if scalded by boiling water or fire; hence, they are named "Vigorous Scorching Sores" (Wangzhuo Chuang).
The disease of Gan-dampness often results from prolonged diarrhea, leading to weakness of the spleen and stomach. Worms move within the intestines and stomach, eroding the five zang organs, causing mental restlessness and oppression. When eroding upwards, sores arise in the mouth, nose, and gums; when eroding downwards, the anus becomes injured and rotten, both being difficult to treat. It may be caused by prolonged dysentery, internal organ heat, lethargy, or a preference for sweet and delicious foods, all of which cause worms to move and induce this disease.
Heat in the lower jiao of a child rushes upward to the yin region, causing sudden swelling and closure of the glans penis, inability to urinate, and even the formation of sores. Folklore attributes this to urine residue and fire toxicity.
