The manifestation of *Zheng* disease (masses characterized by fixed, hard lumps) involves a lump within the abdomen that feels firm and solid upon palpation and does not move when pushed. Postpartum occurrence of *Zheng* disease arises from deficiency of the Zang organs, where residual blood is not fully expelled; it is invaded by wind-cold pathogenic factors, causing the blood to coagulate and form *Zheng* masses.
The symptoms of *Pi* disease (lumps often located in the hypochondrium) involve tightness, string-like tension, and stabbing pain under the ribs. These are formed by irregular consumption of hot and cold foods, leading to stagnation and indigestion. In the postpartum period, due to Zang organ deficiency, wind-cold pathogens clash with retained fluids, condensing and aggregating to form *Pi* masses.
Postpartum injury and exhaustion of Qi and Blood constitute the "Seven Internal Extremes" diseases, also known as the "Seven Harms" in ancient prescriptions. The first harm is food obstruction; the second, Qi disturbance; the third, cold invasion; the fourth, labor overexertion; the fifth, sexual intercourse; the sixth, pregnancy burden; and the seventh, sleep disruption. All these result from the injury to Qi and Blood during childbirth; subsequently, if the body remains extremely deficient and has not recovered, violating these seven prohibitions leads to various illnesses. Generally, when postpartum Qi and Blood are internally exhausted, the person appears emaciated, fatigued, and sallow. Cold causes cramping pain in the heart and abdomen, while heat causes vexing pain in the limbs. Menstrual blood becomes obstructed and stagnant, transforming into accumulations (*Ji Ju*) or movable masses (*Jia*).
When the eyes are neither painful nor swollen but vision is unclear, it is termed *Mu Ming* (blurred vision). The Liver stores Blood, and its condition manifests in the eyes. After childbirth, Blood deficiency leads to insufficiency of Liver Qi, resulting in visual impairment.
Kidney Qi connects to the ears, and women have the uterus connected to the Kidneys. Due to the damage to Qi and Blood during childbirth, Kidney Qi becomes deficient. When the meridians are invaded by wind pathogens, it results in deafness.
Mouth sores occurring after childbirth are caused by deficiency-heat of the Heart. The Heart opens into the mouth and governs the blood vessels; after childbirth, Blood deficiency allows exogenous heat to reside within the Zang organs. This heat rushes upward to the chest and diaphragm, causing sores.
After childbirth, Qi and Blood are damaged, and the *Cou Li* (pores and interstitial spaces) become deficient. Invasion by wind pathogens causes them to clash with Qi and Blood, generating heat within the Zang and Fu organs. This heat erupts onto the skin and muscles, resulting in sores.
The meridians of Hand-Taiyang (Small Intestine) and Hand-Shaoyin (Heart) in women transform downward into menstrual flow and upward into breast milk. During pregnancy, menstrual flow ceases to nourish the fetus. After childbirth, blood and fluids descend together. If the fluids are suddenly exhausted and the blood in the meridians is insufficient, there will be no breast milk.
The meridians of Hand-Taiyang (Small Intestine) and Hand-Shaoyin (Heart) transform upward into breast milk. Although blood and fluids descend after childbirth, if the blood in the meridians is abundant, there will be surplus fluids, resulting in excessive breast milk that overflows.
This leads to thirst. If drinking water does not quench the thirst, and the ingested water fails to transform properly in the stomach and intestines, it transforms into diarrhea.
