Guju (Bone Abscess) is caused by the clashing of cold and heat qi in the meridians, or by the qi of worms and maggots entering the zang-fu organs through diet. It is named Guju because the pus erodes the bone after ulceration. Initially swollen, it later ruptures, heals, and then regenerates at the margins. This cycle may repeat six or seven times, with pus and blood inside. Pain erupts towards evening, feeling like needle pricks.
Qiuyin (Earthworm Ulcer) arises from residing in environments or consuming food contaminated with earthworm qi, or when such qi enters the abdomen and flows into the meridians. Its root lies in the Large Intestine. Its presentation... [text cuts off]
Hua (Flower Ulcer) occurs when wind-dampness invades the skin and clashes with blood and qi, forming a sore. If wind-dampness is excessive, the flesh protrudes, resembling an open flower; this is commonly called Fan Hua Chuang (Reverse Flower Ulcer). If unhealed, insects breed causing erosion, hence termed Hua Gan (Flower Caner).
This condition results from scorpion insect toxic qi in diet or residence entering the zang-fu organs and flowing into the meridians. It may appear under the armpit or beside the neck, swelling in the shape of a scorpion, accompanied by chills and fever, and ulcerating upon rupture. Over time, fine scorpion-like insects grow within the sore.
Hao (Oyster Ulcer) is generated by oyster-insect toxic qi from diet or residence entering the zang-fu organs and flowing into the meridians, undergoing transformation. When adhering to the cheek, it causes muscle wasting and nodular swelling, initially resembling an oyster nest, later ulcerating with the emergence of oyster-like insects.
Nao Gan (Brain Caner) appears on the head and neck, moving up and down with the qi causing pain, eventually affecting the back of the head... [text cuts off].
Yong Gan (Abscess Caner) refers to an abscess that fails to heal after ulceration, where incomplete drainage of pus leads to the generation of insects and ulceration, thus named Yong Gan.
Jue (Stump Ulcer) presents as a broad, flat-topped sore resembling an apricot kernel or similar to Luo Li (Scrofula), characterized by bleeding.
All these Gan ulcers involve insects, but are uniquely named "Gan" because the sores initially lack insects; only after prolonged non-healing do they transform and generate insects, hence the name.
Shi Gan (Stone Caner) initially presents with two ends hard as plum or prune pits, firm to the touch like stone, accompanied by chills and fever, eventually ulcerating after heat subsides.
This condition arises from frog toxic qi in diet or residence entering the zang-fu organs and flowing into the meridians to form a Gan ulcer. After taking medicine, substances resembling frogs are excreted in urine.
