Hair is nourished by the blood of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian (Zu Shao Yin Shen Jing). When Blood and Qi are abundant, hair grows long and beautiful; if Blood is deficient and scanty, hair fails to grow long, requiring medicinal treatment to promote growth.
The blood of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian externally nourishes the hair. When Blood and Qi are abundant, hair becomes lustrous and smooth; if deficient, Blood cannot nourish the hair, resulting in a lack of luster.
The blood of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian externally nourishes the hair. When Blood and Qi are abundant, hair becomes moist and black; if exhausted, it fails to provide prosperity to the hair, causing it to turn yellow.
The blood of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian (Zu Shao Yang Dan Jing) externally prospers the beard. When Blood and Qi are abundant, the beard becomes beautiful and long; if deficient and insufficient, it fails to provide external moisture and prosperity, leading to [impaired beard growth].
The Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian (Zu Tai Yang Pang Guang Jing) originates from the inner canthus of the eye, ascends to the forehead, and intersects at the vertex. When Blood and Qi are abundant, eyebrows become beautiful with fine hairs; when scarce, eyebrows appear coarse or poor. If eyebrows are injured by Wind Pathogen (Feng Xie), they fall out. All these cases result from damage to Blood and Qi, failing to nourish, thus requiring medication to stimulate regrowth.
The growth of hair depends on the moisturizing and nourishing action of Blood and Qi. In areas burned by fire, if scar tissue becomes dense, Blood and Qi sink downward and fail to circulate through the Couli (pores and interstices), so hair does not grow.
The splendor of the Blood and Qi of the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian manifests in the hair. Abundant Blood and Qi of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian result in beautiful eyebrows; abundant Blood and Qi of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian result in a beautiful beard; abundant Blood and Qi of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian (Zu Yang Ming Wei Jing) result in beautiful scalp hair; abundant Blood and Qi of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Meridian (Shou Yangming Da Chang Jing) result in beautiful mustaches. When Blood and Qi of all meridians are abundant, eyebrows, mustaches, beards, and scalp hair are beautiful and lustrous. If deficient, scanty, or exhausted, they turn yellow, white, wither, or fall out. If Wind Pathogen invades the meridians, altering Blood and Qi, abnormal and ugly hair may grow randomly, requiring topical application of medicine to prevent such growth.
All ordinary people harbor nine types of parasites within the abdomen. When Blood and Qi are deficient, these parasites can invade and consume bodily resources. The activation of Ascaris lumbricoides-like worms (Nuo Chong) most readily causes sores, leading to conditions such as carbuncles (Ju), tinea (Xuan), [missing character], and scabies (Jie), committing various evils. The condition known as White Baldness (Bai Tu) is caused by these worms, referring to sores on the head with worms present, very itchy white crusts, and the subsequent loss and non-regrowth of hair above them.
This condition arises from head sores where worms feed, causing hair loss without white crusts but with exudate, red skin, and itching, hence termed Red Baldness (Chi Tu).
