Dysentery also varies, divided into Yang dysentery and Yin dysentery, a distinction unknown to the general public. Everyone assumes that dysentery is caused by damp-heat, often claiming "there is no cure for dysentery," without distinguishing its Yin or Yang nature, thus frequently leading to death, which is truly lamentable. The *Neijing* (Classic of Internal Medicine) did not distinguish between Yin and Yang dysentery; today, I am revealing this heavenly secret. Generally speaking, symptoms such as blood in the stool, abdominal pain, tenesmus (straining with little result), and inability to eat (Jinkou) indicate Yang dysentery. Conversely, absence of abdominal pain, comfort upon palpation, lack of urgency at the anus, ability to eat during the day, and passage of white pus without blood indicate Yin dysentery. Although appropriate medication can treat both types with one formula, failing to recognize the Yin-Yang nature of the disease means one still does not understand dysentery. It is essential to clearly distinguish them so that medication can be applied with appropriate weight and measure, achieving results swiftly like an echo. I now establish two formulas: one for Yang dysentery and one for Yin dysentery. The formula for Yang dysentery is named *Saoli Shendan* (Sweeping Dysentery Divine Elixir); it stops bleeding after one dose and halts dysentery after two doses, requiring no third dose. The formula for Yin dysentery is named *Huali Xiandan* (Transforming Dysentery Immortal Elixir); symptoms alleviate after one dose, dysentery ceases after two doses, and full recovery occurs after three doses. People consider bloody dysentery severe but underestimate white dysentery, which affects the Yin aspect and is certainly not mild. The difference lies in Yang dysentery having heavy fire and light dampness, while Yin dysentery has light fire and heavy dampness. The brilliance of the Yang dysentery formula lies in combining Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) with Dahuang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome), allowing the fire-toxin to be swept away rapidly without lingering in the intestines and stomach. The brilliance of the Yin dysentery formula lies in using a large amount of Shaoyao (Peony Root) to soothe the Liver to support the Spleen Earth, stabilizing the Earth so that Water-dampness can be easily removed. The remaining herbs are all substances that expel evil filth, each suitable for use, hence the efficacy is easily achieved.

Regarding manic-depressive disorders (Diankuang), the public correctly identifies Dian (depressive psychosis) as Yin and Kuang (manic psychosis) as Yang. However, Dian cases may contain Yang symptoms, and Kuang cases may contain Yin symptoms. How do we know? Conditions like epilepsy (Yangdian) or animal-like madness are caused by insufficiency of Yang Qi; when Yang is deficient, Yin pathogens flourish naturally, constituting a Yin syndrome. This classification is appropriate. Yet, there is a condition called "Flower Dian" where patients show affection toward men but fail to recognize women, shouting and calling incessantly day and night. If treated as a Yin syndrome using Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) and Fuzi (Aconite Root), the patient will immediately go mad and die. Kuang syndrome, characterized by singing while climbing high, discarding clothes, and jumping into water, is caused by excess Yang pathogens, constituting a Yang syndrome. This is also appropriate. However, there are deceptive similarities that must be distinguished. For instance, cursing at people, agitation upon seeing objects, insomnia despite desire to sleep, restlessness despite desire to walk, thirst seeking drink, and stopping upon seeing water—if treated as a Yang syndrome and administered Zhuyeshigao Tang (Bamboo Leaf and Gypsum Decoction), the patient will die instantly upon swallowing. So how should these two syndromes be differentiated? By observing whether the eyes have spirit (Shen) or lack spirit. In Yang syndromes, the eyes are red; in Yin syndromes, the eyes are white/pale. I have established two formulas: one for Yang Dian and one for Yin Kuang. The formula for Yang Dian is named *Sandian Tang* (Scattering Dian Decoction). Its brilliance lies in using 1 liang of Baishao to naturally soothe the Liver, and 5 qian of Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit) to naturally dissipate constrained fire. The remaining herbs—Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), Jingjie (Schizonepeta Spike), Baizhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), and Fuling (Poria)—are excellent for resolving phlegm and dampness, naturally clearing the Heart, descending fire, strengthening the Spleen, and eliminating Dian. The formula for Yin Kuang is named *Jiekuang San* (Resolving Kuang Powder). Its brilliance lies in using 2 liang of Xuanshen (Scrophularia Root) among yin-nourishing herbs to dissipate floating fire; when Wood/Water is sufficient, fire self-extinguishes, and when fire subsides, Kuang self-resolves. If differentiation is unclear and medications are blindly administered, life and death remain uncertain.
