(Jiajian Shengshu Erdi Tang, Modified Decoction of Raw and Prepared Rehmannia Roots)也非常巧妙。
There are individuals who are prone to anger. Even regarding trivial matters of diet and daily life, or interactions among family members such as parents and children, they invariably adopt an aggressive and domineering attitude. This often results in distension and stuffiness in the hypochondriac regions, with qi mechanism failing to remain harmonious, subsequently leading to headache, facial heat, and distending pain in the chest and diaphragm. People generally attribute this to excess Liver Qi, yet little do they know that it is actually due to a deficiency of Liver Blood. The nature of the Liver is most urgent and requires blood for nourishment. Only when there is insufficient blood in the Liver does the Liver Qi become depressed and fail to diffuse freely, thereby becoming prone to anger. Generally speaking, Liver Qi finds it difficult to store and prefers to discharge; if Liver Qi stores, then Liver Blood must overflow outwardly; if Liver Blood stores, then Liver Qi must diffuse outwardly; if Liver Qi discharges, then Liver Blood must generate internally; if Liver Blood leaks, then Liver Qi must stagnate internally. These two aspects are originally opposite yet mutually complementary. In cases of being prone to anger, it is because Liver Blood desires to store but cannot, and Liver Qi desires to discharge but cannot. The treatment method involves tonifying Liver Blood to enable storage, and soothing Liver Qi to enable discharge.
The prescription used is Xiaoyao San (Rambling Powder) with modifications.
Bai Shao (White Peony Root), 1 liang; Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), 5 qian; Chen Pi (Tangerine Peel), 5 fen; Gan Cao (Licorice Root), 5 fen; Fu Ling (Poria); Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis Root), each 5 qian; Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), 1 qian; Chao Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit stir-fried), 3 qian; Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber), 1 qian; Jing Jie (Schizonepeta Herb, stir-fried until black), 3 qian.
Decoct in water and take orally. After taking ten doses continuously, the blood will be stored within the Liver, and the qi will be diffused outside the Liver, achieving a suitable balance between the two.
This formula is originally effective at resolving depression in the Liver Meridian; once the depression is resolved, the qi naturally harmonizes. Moreover, by clearing fire, the blood acquires a tranquil quality; by guiding the medicinal action to the meridian, the blood develops a tendency to return. By heavily using Bai Shao and Dang Gui to generate new blood, and lightly using Chai Hu and Ban Xia to resolve rebellious qi, both objectives are achieved simultaneously.
For this syndrome, using Jiajian Shengshu Erdi Tang (Modified Decoction of Raw and Prepared Rehmannia Roots) is also excellent.
