Women suffering from breast abscess (Ru Yong) or breast cancer (Ru Yan), are like men suffering from scrotal diseases; the harm is very great. If not treated early, there is even a risk to life. This condition often arises from depression and anger, leading to disharmony of Qi and Blood. It can also be caused by an infant suckling on the nipple. At the initial stage, pressing on the breast reveals a firm lump. One may use powdered deer horn mixed with wine for oral administration, or powder of Costus root (Muxiang) and flower powder mixed with wine, or decocting the whole Trichosanthes fruit (Hua Gualou) including peel and pulp. However, these methods are not very effective. My family has a simple and miraculous inherited prescription: use 4 qian each of Radix Lycopi (Zelan Ye), Herba Siegesbeckiae (Diding), Rhizoma Bletillae (Baiji), Herba Taraxaci (Pugongying), Flos Lonicerae (Jinyinhua), and Fructus Papaveris (Mugua), along with 1 qian of Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao). Decoct with one small bowl of water and one small bowl of wine. Take it hot when the stomach is empty. The dregs can be decocted again in water and used to wash the breast area; sweating will stop the pain and effectively dissipate the lump. If the condition is severe, taking another dose will lead to self-healing.
The spell says: "When the sun rises shining on the pomegranate, Lady Golden Light seals the nipple. One mouthful of magical water and Sanjiao water, all seven spring holes flow together." For women suffering from "infant blow-breast" (milk stasis), take a flat hairpin from the infant's head, hold it in the left hand, then use the thumb and index finger of the right hand to pinch it into a point. Recite the spell seven times in one breath, give it to the woman, and return the pin to her head. Ask if she is better; if she replies "I am better," she will indeed recover.
One liang of Herba Taraxaci (Pugonggai), decocted with one cup of water and one cup of wine. After taking the medicine, sleep for one hour, cover with a blanket to induce slight sweating, and the illness will heal.
Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Cangzhu, 3 qian), Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis (Houpo, 3 qian), Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae (Chenpi, 1 qian), Radix Glycyrrhizae (Gancao, 5 fen), Natrii Sulfas (Yanxiao, 5 fen). Decoct together to make four cups. Additionally, mix one cup of urine from a healthy boy (Tongbian), ginger juice wine, and urine from a yellow ox, and drink them together for immediate effect. To obtain ox urine: lead the ox to the field, step in water, and it will urinate. Alternatively, decoct one fresh leaf of Nelumbinis Folium (Jitou Lianye) well water; drinking this promotes urination/drainage. (Dry leaves are also acceptable).
Safeguarding infants sincerely seeks to achieve benevolence and longevity. When a newborn is born, preventing Umbilical Tetanus (Qifeng) is of primary importance. Mr. Xiong Xiawu, a Xiaolian (scholar-official) from my hometown, had several sons who all suffered from Umbilical Tetanus. Consequently, he devoted himself to studying this matter for decades. He happened to receive this prescription from a famous doctor named Li. Later, Mr. Xiong had four sons, four daughters, and grandchildren, all raised to adulthood thanks to this formula. Many in the village were saved through it. Our family's infants also benefited greatly. Knowing that this formula is the foundation for the survival and blessing of young children, and is crucial for infant care, benevolent gentlemen should widely disseminate it. Therefore, this formula is recorded in detail at the beginning of the chapter. Additionally, an external treatment formula for acute and severe Sha Syndrome (heat stroke/toxin) has been tested repeatedly with miraculous effects, which is also recorded below.
Formulas for Safeguarding Infants:
1. Formula for Sprinkling on the Umbilicus
Calcined Alum (Kufan, 1.5 qian), Borax (Pengsha, 2.5 qian), Cinnabar (Zhusha, 2 fen), Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian, 5 li), Moschus (Shexiang, 5 li).
Grind the above medicines into fine powder, seal in a porcelain bottle. After the infant is born and the umbilical cord is cut, immediately apply this powder to the infant's umbilicus. Wrap the umbilicus securely with an old soft cloth strip, two inches wide and two to three chi long. If the infant cries incessantly after two or three days, unwrap to check and reapply the medicine to the affected area. Cover with a piece of new cotton wool and wrap again with the cloth strip. Allow the scab to fall off naturally; do not open it randomly if the infant is not crying. Thereafter, one can be assured of avoiding Umbilical Tetanus.
