Simple and effective divine prescriptions for the prevention of infantile conditions such as neonatal tetanus (Umbilical Wind) and horse's teeth.
Calcined Alum (Wuqian, 5 qian), Borax (Pengsha, 1.5 qian), Cinnabar (Zhusha, 1.5 qian), Borneol (Bingpian, 2 fen), and Musk (Shexiang, 1 fen) are ground together into a fine powder. Whenever an infant is placed on the ground after birth, this powder should be applied to the base of the umbilicus immediately after washing, replacing the traditional alum application. Every time the diaper is changed, this medicine should still be applied. After using one dose, the infant will be permanently free from Umbilical Wind and similar conditions.
Prescription for Infantile Red Roaming (Chi You Dan): The symptoms present as redness and swelling on the legs, or heat throughout the body. If the redness spreads all over the body, it is fatal.
Method 1: Apply the foul water found inside eggs that have been laid by hens after nursing (or post-laying stale egg fluid) to the affected area two or three times, and it will heal.
Method 2: Decoct patterned silver in water and frequently apply it; this is also effective.
Method 3: Rhubarb (Dahuang, 1.5 qian), Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai, 1 qian), and Borneol (Bingpian, 5 fen) are ground into a powder. Mix with honey water and apply topically.
Prescription for Night Crying in Infants: Caused by excessive swaddling and extreme heat from parents sharing the bed. As the proverb says, "If you want the child to be safe, keep them slightly hungry and cold."
Method 1: Use Bezoar (Xihuang) and refined Cinnabar (Fei Zhusha, 5 li each). Apply to the infant's tongue to stop crying immediately.
Method 2: Apply chicken manure to the infant's umbilicus. Use female chicken manure for boys and male chicken manure for girls.
Prescription for Horse's Teeth (Ma Ya): Within the first hundred days of life, white blister-like spots appear on the upper palate or gums, known as "Horse's Teeth." Urgently puncture them with a silver needle to remove the white spots, ensuring they do not fall into the throat. Then, apply aged ink to the affected area to heal. If bleeding persists after puncturing, apply ash from the mother's burnt hair to stop it. Subsequently, administer a decoction of Phellodendron Bark (Huangbai, 1 qian) and Licorice Root (Gancao, 5 fen).
Prescription for Umbilical Wind with Mouth Contraction (Qi Feng Che Kou): Umbilical Wind with mouth contraction often results from the umbilical cord being exposed to wind after birth. Urgently check the gums and upper palate for white blisters. Break them using paper wrapped in green cloth. Mince scallions and apply to the umbilicus. In spring and summer, use fresh mugwort leaves mixed with minced scallions, apply to the hardened surrounding area, and wrap with silk. Taking Xuanfeng San (Dispersing Wind Powder) concurrently is even better.
Xuanfeng San (Dispersing Wind Powder): Scorpion (Quanxie, 21 pieces) and Musk (Shexiang, 5 li). Grind these two ingredients separately and mix evenly. Take 2.5 li per dose, administered with Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua) decoction.
Prescription for Gangrenous Stomatitis Running Like a Horse (Zou Ma Gan): Use the white bone from the head of a croaker fish (Shishou Yu). Boil it thoroughly in rapeseed oil, then apply the mixture to the affected area to heal.
Malnutrition Dysentery (Gan Li)
Verse: "Children's miscellaneous diseases transform into Malnutrition (Gan); whether strong or weak, boy or girl. Restless heat, dry fur/hair, dry nose and mouth, withered skin, paralyzed limbs, frequent dysentery in the abdomen. This prescription is Qingdai San; children take it for peace amidst a hundred illnesses." Simply grind Indigo Naturalis (Qingdai) with water and ingest. (From Immortal Prescription)
Yuxian Dan for Malnutrition (Gan Syndrome): Treats all conditions involving abdominal distension, sallow emaciation, abdominal pain, and intestinal parasites. It is highly effective.
Ingredients: Realgar (Xionghuang, 3 qian), Musk (Shexiang, 5 fen), Arisaema Cum Bile (Danning, 2 qian), Scorpion (Quanxie, large, stir-fried, feet removed), Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan, stir-fried, 1 qian each), Croton Seed (Badou, 5 fen, pressed between paper to remove oil), Cinnabar (Zhusha, refined, 2 qian, used as coating).
Grind into a pure powder. Make pills using fermented wheat dough (Shenqu paste), sized like rape seeds. Take one pill per dose with warm water. (This prescription was obtained by Monk Zhirong of Hangzhou and has saved millions.)
Prescription for Infant Consumption (Hai'er Lao): Aged rice wine and child's urine (Tongbian), one zhong each, decoct first. Then add human milk and white honey, one zhong each. Decoct further into a paste. The patient should take multiple doses until healed.
Divine Prescription for Sparse Smallpox (Xi Dou Shen Fang): Castor Seeds (Bimazi, select 36 plump white ones, shell removed, meat only), Cinnabar (Dansha, 1 qian), Musk (Shexiang, 1 fen). First, grind Cinnabar and Musk extremely finely. Then add the castor seed meat and grind together into a paste. On the noon hour of the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, apply to thirteen points on the infant: center of the crown, center of the chest, center of the back spine, centers of both palms, centers of both soles, cubital fossae of both arms, popliteal fossae of both legs, and both axillary fossae. Apply to all thirteen points, covering an area the size of a coin, without wasting any medicine. Do not wash or disturb the application afterward; let it fall off naturally. Applying once in the current year limits smallpox to a few spots; applying again the next year limits it to one or two spots; applying a third year ensures no smallpox appears. For infants under one year old, apply according to this method on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month and the ninth day of the ninth lunar month for better results. The family transmitting this prescription has done so for sixteen generations without anyone contracting smallpox. It is not merely about reducing the count. This prescription is simple and easy to use, applied externally on the skin, beneficial and harmless. It is truly a spiritual elixir for protecting infants. Those who understand its value should cherish it.
Before an infant feeds for the first time after birth, soak small amounts of Licorice Root (Gancao), Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian), and Rhubarb (Dahuang) in water to obtain a concentrated juice. Mix with Cinnabar powder and smear inside the infant's mouth to prevent smallpox.
For infantile carbuncles and boils, only decoct Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua) for internal consumption and external washing to resolve the toxin. Absolutely do not use Mercury (Shuiyin), Sulfur (Liuhuang), Arsenic Trioxide (Xinshi), or Spurge Seed (Mubiezi) for topical application or fumigation. Although the sores may heal, the toxin will attack internally, leading to critical conditions. Beware, beware.
After an infant reaches one year of age and can eat solid food, do not allow excessive eating. Especially avoid all difficult-to-digest foods. Although porridge and rice are edible, they must be consumed in moderation. Some foolish parents give food whenever the child cries, causing spleen damage, food stagnation, diarrhea, and nutritional malnutrition, which may become incurable. Who bears the blame? As the ancient saying goes, "To cherish the child, cherish their food." I advise everyone to follow this practice and not harm the child through improper diet.
When storing the placenta (Baoyi), choose the direction of the "Moon Void" position. In odd-numbered months, the Moon Void is in the Ren-Bing directions; in even-numbered months, it is in the Jia-Geng directions. Choose a quiet location for auspiciousness and benefit.
