天,天之色黑者也;素天,天之色白者也。天气者,苍天之气,木也;丹天之气,火也;
辛、壬、癸也。古圣仰观五天五气,苍天木气下临丁壬之方,故识丁壬合化而生木运也;

The Five Heavens (Cang, Dan, Huang, Xuan, Su) correspond to the Qi of the Five Elements. The Heavenly Qi combines with the Heavenly Stems to transform and descend sequentially. Jia and Ji transform into Earth; Bing and Xin transform into Water; Ding and Ren transform into Wood; Yi and Geng transform into Metal; Wu and Gui transform into Fire. These constitute the pattern of the Five Moving Yuns (Ke Yun), starting from the Central Yun (Zhu Yun) and rotating according to the generation cycle of the Five Elements. The Yin stems are Yi, Ding, Ji, Xin, Gui; the Yang stems are Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng, Ren.
[Note] The term "Five Heavens" refers to Cang Tian (the sky appears green), Dan Tian (the sky appears red), Huang Tian (the sky appears yellow), Xuan Tian (the sky appears black), and Su Tian (the sky appears white). The term "Heavenly Qi" refers to: the Qi of Cang Tian belongs to Wood; the Qi of Dan Tian belongs to Fire; the Qi of Huang Tian belongs to Earth; the Qi of Xuan Tian belongs to Water; the Qi of Su Tian belongs to Metal. There are ten Heavenly Stems: Jia, Yi, Bing, Ding, Wu, Ji, Geng, Xin, Ren, Gui. Ancient sages observed the Five Heavens and their Five Qis. They saw that the Wood Qi of Cang Tian descended upon the direction of Ding and Ren, thus recognizing that Ding and Ren combine to generate the Wood Yun; the Fire Qi of Dan Tian descended upon the direction of Wu and Gui, thus recognizing that Wu and Gui combine to generate the Fire Yun; the Earth Qi of Huang Tian descended upon the direction of Jia and Ji, thus recognizing that Jia and Ji combine to generate the Earth Yun; the Water Qi of Xuan Tian descended upon the direction of Bing and Xin, thus recognizing that Bing and Xin combine to generate the Water Yun; the Metal Qi of Su Tian descended upon the direction of Yi and Geng, thus recognizing that Yi and Geng combine to generate the Metal Yun. This is how the Heavenly Qi and Heavenly Stems combine and transform, descending upon the five positions of the Main Yun as the Moving Yun. It begins with the transformed Yun, which governs the Central Yun of the current year as the First Yun, rotating sequentially according to the generating cycle of the Five Elements. For example, in years of Jia and Ji, the Earth Yun governs, so the First Yun is Earth; Earth generates Metal for the Second Yun; Metal generates Water for the Third Yun; Water generates Wood for the Fourth Yun; Wood generates Fire for the Fifth Yun. The Moving Yuns for other years are calculated following this method for Earth Yun. Yi, Ding, Ji, Xin, and Gui belong to the Yin stems, known as the Five Yin Years, governing the Five "Shao" (Deficient/Insufficient) Yuns. Jia, Bing, Wu, Geng, and Ren belong to the Yang stems, known as the Five Yang Years, governing the Five "Tai" (Excessive/Superabundant) Yuns.
