The meridian of the Foot-Taiyin Splein Channel originates at the tip of the great toe. It follows the medial margin of the toe, passes posterior to the nucleus bone (base of the first metatarsal), and ascends to the anterior border of the medial malleolus. It then travels up the medial aspect of the leg, crossing behind the tibia to emerge anterior to the Foot-Jueyin Liver Channel. Continuing upward, it enters the medial anterior aspect of the knee and thigh, and penetrates into the abdomen. It connects with the Spleen Zang-organ (Spleen) and links with the Stomach Fu-organ (Stomach). Ascending through the diaphragm, it runs alongside the pharynx, connects with the root of the tongue, and scatters under the tongue. A branch diverges from the Stomach, ascends through the diaphragm, and pours into the Heart. This channel contains twenty-one acupoints; four are selected here for discussion.
Yinbai (SP1): Located at the medial corner of the nail of the great toe, approximately the width of a leek leaf from the nail edge. It is the Jing-Well point (where the channel Qi emerges) of the Foot-Taiyin Splein Channel. Needle depth: 0.1 cun; retain needle for three breaths. Moxibustion: 3 cones. Indications include abdominal pain, vomiting, inability to eat or drink, coldness of the feet that cannot be warmed, and women with prolonged menstrual bleeding beyond the expected period; needling this point can bring immediate relief. It is also indicated for infantile convulsions due to fright (Ke Wu Jing Feng).
Sanyinjiao (SP6): Located 3 cun directly above the tip of the medial malleolus, in the depression posterior to the medial border of the tibia. It is the intersection point of the three Yin channels of the foot (Foot-Taiyin Spleen, Foot-Shaoyin Kidney, and Foot-Jueyin Liver). Needle depth: 0.3 cun; retain needle for seven breaths. Moxibustion: 3 cones. Contraindicated during pregnancy. Indications include heart and abdominal distension, fullness, loss of appetite due to Spleen and Stomach deficiency; difficult labor, menorrhagia (profuse or prolonged menstruation), and leukorrhea (red and white discharge). For these conditions, the method should be reducing first, then tonifying. For small intestine hernia, unilateral testicular swelling, dysuria, and generalized edema, the method should be tonifying first, then reducing. The *Qianjin Fang* records: "In the hollow 3 cun above the medial malleolus," moxibustion of 50 cones treats cough with reverse flow of Qi, consumptive disease, spasm and pain of sinews and bones, bi syndrome of the throat, fullness of the neck and nape, intestinal hemorrhoids, rebellious Qi, hematochezia due to hemorrhoids, and acute contraction of the genitalia. It also states that for nocturnal emission occurring in dreams of sexual intercourse in both men and women, moxibustion of 5 cones on Sanyinjiao is highly effective. Historically, the Crown Prince of Song was skilled in medicine. Upon encountering a pregnant woman, he diagnosed her fetus as female. Xu Wenbo also diagnosed it as one male and one female. Impatient, the Prince wished to perform an autopsy to verify. Xu Wenbo said, "Your subject can induce delivery via acupuncture." He reduced Sanyinjiao and tonified Hegu (LI4) of the Hand-Yangming Large Intestine Channel. The fetus was delivered immediately, exactly as predicted. Therefore, this point is contraindicated during pregnancy as it can induce abortion, even of a dead fetus.
Yinlingquan (SP9): Located in the depression below the medial condyle of the tibia, inferior to the knee. The point can be located with the leg extended or flexed. It is opposite Yanglingquan (GB34) of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Channel. Some sources state it is slightly higher than 1 cun. It is the He-Sea point (where the channel Qi enters) of the Foot-Taiyin Splein Channel. Needle depth: 0.5 cun; retain needle for seven breaths. Moxibustion: 3 cones. Indications include cold pain in the abdomen, distension, asthma with reverse flow of Qi, inability to lie flat, dysuria, genital pain, redness and swelling of the foot and knee. The *Tongyuan Fu* records that it "can open the water pathways," treating bi syndrome of the throat and chest fullness.
Xuehai (SP10) (also known as Baichongke): Located 1 cun superior to the patella, in the depression at the medial margin of the vastus medialis muscle. Another description places it 0.5 cun horizontally inward from the upper border of the medial tibial condyle. Needle depth: 0.5 cun. Moxibustion: 5 cones. Indications include skin sores and itching of both legs caused by Wind-Dampness of the Kidney, which is unbearable due to severe dampness; irregular menstruation and leukorrhea in women. The treatment method should be tonifying first, then reducing. The *Baizheng Fu* records: "Combined with Diji (SP8), it treats abnormalities in women's menstruation"; it also states: "Combined with Chongmen (SP12), it effectively treats accumulations and masses." The *Lingguang Fu* records: "Combined with Qihai (CV6), it treats the five types of strangury (Wu Lin)."
