Zhang Jifeng stated: Chuanshi Lao (Transmissible Consumption) arises from Shizhu (a contagious form of deficiency syndrome) and is compounded by pathogenic factors and evil qi. Generally, it presents with alternating chills and fever, persistent dripping/sweating, a depressed and silent demeanor, uncertainty regarding the specific location of discomfort, yet a sense of malaise throughout the body. Over years and months, the patient gradually becomes emaciated and weak. Even after death, the condition may transmit to others. For this, one must use the "Tongshen" prescription from *Baiyi Xuanfang* to treat Chuanshi Lao.
Tianninggai (Human Skull Cap, 3 qian, roasted with butter until yellow and powdered, weighed) Biejia (Turtle Shell, largest size, roasted with vinegar until yellow and powdered, weighed 1 liang; nine-ribbed shells are superior) Taoren (Peach Kernel, 2.5 qian, skin and tips removed, ground) Qingshe Nao (Green Snake Brain, size of a small bean, roasted with butter until color changes; if unavailable, snake brain can be omitted) Hufei Nei Gu'an (Bone inside Tiger Feces, over 2 liang, powdered and sifted through silk) Binglang (Areca Seed, 2.5 qian, separately ground into fine powder) Shexiang (Musk, 1 qian, separately ground) Qinghao (Herba Artemisiae Annuae, cut into inch-long pieces, 6 liang) Chi (Fermented Soybean, 300 grains) Fengye (Maple Leaf, 21 leaves) Conggen (Scallion Root, 21 roots, crushed) Tongbian (Child's Urine, half sheng) Tao, Liu, Li, Sang Dongyin Zhi (Eastern-growing branches of Peach, Willow, Plum, and Mulberry trees, 7 stems each, 7 cun long, thickness like a finger, finely cut).
First, decoct Qinghao, Peach branch, Plum branch, Mulberry branch, Maple leaf, Scallion, and Fermented Soybean in three sheng of water measured with official vessels, boiling down to half a sheng. Strain the dregs. Add Anxi [Note: Text likely incomplete or erroneous here, literally "Add Anxi"], Tianninggai, bone from tiger feces, Biejia, Taoren, and Tongbian, and decoct together to extract the juice. Strain the dregs to obtain four or five he of liquid. Grind Binglang and Shexiang together evenly, mix into the liquid as one dose. Take warm in the morning, cover with a blanket to induce sweating. Fear that tiny insects may be present in the sweat; wipe with silk cloth and immediately burn the cloth. Subsequently, diarrhea must occur, and insects will definitely be excreted. If not dead, burn them with strong fire and discard into flowing long water. The medication used must never be known by the patient, nor in the future. After ten days or so, when the pathological qi dissipates, administer another dose.
Tagan San (River Otter Liver Powder)
One River Otter Liver, dried in shade and pounded into powder. Take one fangcun bi (square-inch spoonful) with drink, three times daily. If not cured, take again. *Zhouhou Beiji Fang* states: This prescription is very effective.

Grind all above into fine powder. Make pills with refined honey, size of wutong seeds. Coat with Zhusha (Cinnabar). Take 20 pills with warm wine before meals. If there is heat in the diaphragm, take after meals. Severe illness [Text ends abruptly].
