Pian Feng (Hemiplegia due to Wind) refers to a condition where wind pathogen invades only one side of the body. Its manifestations include dysfunction on either the left or right side, with the inability to raise the hand or walk with the foot. The *Neijing* (Classic of Internal Medicine) describes "wind pathogen striking half of the body," and its symptoms are equivalent to those of Pian Feng. The left and right sides are the pathways of Yin and Yang Qi; they cannot be biased. If biased, Yin and Yang become unbalanced and obstructed. The meridians and collaterals are channels through which Qi and Blood flow; they cannot be blocked. If blocked, Qi and Blood stagnate, leading to functional impairment. Harmonizing Yin and Yang and dredging the meridians is the method for treating internal injuries. Using potent herbs to attack pathogens and inducing sweating through acupuncture and hot compresses is the method for treating external contractions.
