Pain is localized to a fixed area and worsens at night; the pulse is Khōu (Cǒu, 芤) and Sè (Sè, 涩). This condition is common in women after childbirth or following trauma from falls and excessive exertion. It may result from internal injury due to worry and anger, or external invasion by wind-cold, leading to rebellious Qi and cold blood coagulation, forming an accumulation. The *Neijing* states: "If suddenly affected externally by cold, and internally injured by worry and anger, Qi becomes rebellious, the six transport points become obstructed, warm Qi fails to circulate, and congealed blood accumulates within without dispersing." This refers to such cases.
Jiājiǎn Sìwù Tāng (Modified Four Substances Decoction, Li Dongyuan's formula): Treats blood accumulation in women.
Ingredients: Shúdì Huáng (Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata), Dāngguī (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuānxiōng (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Sháoyào (Paeoniae Radix Alba/Rubra), Ròuguì (Cinnamomi Cortex), Guǎngpí (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Léng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Gānqī (Phasmi Coccinei Resina - stir-fried until smoke ceases), all in equal proportions.
Grind into coarse powder. Take two qian per dose, decoct in water, and take orally. Dānxī Dāngguī Wán (Danxi Angelica Pill): Contains no Ròuguì or Gānqī; instead contains Shénqū (Medicated Leaven) and Bǎicǎoshuāng (Charred Grass Ash); mixed with wine to form pills.
The Classics state: Heat transferring from the Small Intestine to the Large Intestine is called Fúxiá (Hidden Mass). Liu Hejian stated: When heat qi in the Large Intestine stagnates and consumes body fluids, causing abdominal pain and constipation with difficulty, Bīnláng Wán (Areca Seed Pill) should be used.
Bīnláng Wán Ingredients: Bīnláng (Arecae Semen), Dàhuáng (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma - crushed and stir-fried), Zhīqiào (Aurantii Fructus - bran-stir-fried), each two liang; Mùxiāng (Vladimiriae Radix), Táorén (Persicae Semen - skin and tip removed, stir-fried), Dàmárén (Cannabis Fructus - separately ground into powder).
Honey-pilled to the size of paulownia seeds. Take ten to fifteen pills per dose, at any time, washed down with warm wine.
Shíxiá (Stone Mass) refers to blood stagnation and accumulation, forming a hard mass like stone; this is also known as Xuèxiá (Blood Mass). The Classics state: Cold pathogen lodges in Zǐmén (Uterine Orifice), blocking it so Qi cannot circulate freely. Evil blood should be discharged but remains, accumulating daily and enlarging, resembling pregnancy, with menstruation not occurring on time. These conditions occur only in women. They can be treated by guiding downward expulsion, and are also called Jiǎjù (Mass Aggregation). The Classics state: Disease of the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel) manifests as Seven Types of Hernia in men and Jiǎjù in women. This refers to such cases.
(Newly Formulated Prescription)
Ingredients: Dàhuáng (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma - three qian, soaked overnight in wine with Sānléng [Sparganii Rhizoma] and Péngzhú [Curcumae Rhizoma], remove Sānléng and Péngzhú, use only the Da Huang stir-fried), Táorén (Persicae Semen - thirty grains, skin and tip removed), Guì (Cinnamomi Ramulus - three qian), Fùzǐ (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata - four qian, processed), Mùxiāng (Vladimiriae Radix - one and a half qian), Qīngpí (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride - two qian, vinegar-stir-fried), Dāngguī (Angelicae Sinensis Radix - five qian), Gānqī (Phasmi Coccinei Resina - two and a half qian, stir-fried until smoke ceases).
