Diseases reside within the Ying (Nutrient) and Wei (Defensive) levels; the method for rescue and treatment is acupuncture. Observe deficiency and excess through the patient's emaciation or robustness, and distinguish the depth of pathogens according to the four seasons. Thus, regarding the method of selecting acupoints, one need only differentiate Yin and Yang, as well as the muscle valleys (Xigu); when facing wind-strike, one must understand the rising and sinking of Qi and Blood.
Tracing back to the meaning in the *Zhiwei Lun* (Treatise on Subtle Points), which was compiled into this Fu (rhapsody), it aims to know the opening and closing of Qi at specific times and explain the flow and distribution of meridians. Whenever one reads the text and studies its methods, the purport of each chapter is carefully preserved; even in critical and dangerous conditions, needling should not be mistaken.
Specifically, on Yin days, Blood leads the flow, and when Yang Qi circulates, warm needle techniques are appropriate; on Yang days, Qi leads the flow, and when Yin Blood warms, securing against cold dampness is suitable. Deeply exploring the twelve primary meridians as the numerical basis, and the fifteen collaterals forming a cycle; the sixty Yin Shu points are governed by the Zang organs, and the seventy-one Yang points are collected by the Fu organs. When needling Yang meridians, horizontal insertion may be used; when draining blood from collateral vessels, first soften them with finger manipulation. Exhalation for insertion constitutes the "Ying" (Receiving/Reducing) method, while inhalation constitutes the "Bu" (Tonifying) method; inserting against the meridian flow is "Ni" (Opposing), and following it is "Shun" (Following), leaving no cause for worry. Prolonged illness dragging out suffering is the reason for moxibustion. For restlessness where herbal medicine fails to reach the limit, the Eight Hui points must be selected; for carbuncles and swellings involving the Extraordinary Vessels where pathogens accumulate, even subtle cases require bi stone therapy.
Moreover, Jia Gallbladder and Yi Liver, Ding Heart and Ren Water: that which generates me is called "Mother," and that which I generate is called "Son." In Spring, Jing-Well points are used; in Summer, Ying-Spring points are used, indicating pathogen presence in superficial layers; in Autumn, Jing-River points are used; in Winter, He-Sea points are used, indicating the time for needling. Pain indicates excess, itching indicates deficiency; reducing the Son point and following the Mother point are key indications.
Thinking of the ancient sages' swift efficacy, nothing surpassed acupuncture; modern people curing diseases, how can they depart from medical theory? Xu Wenbo induced abortion via needling in Yuannei, a process remarkably fast; Fan Jiusi treated throat ailments in Jiangxia, an event rarely heard of.
Generally speaking, the relics of past and present are all emulated by later generations. Wang Zuan recovered health through needling, emerging like a water dog saved from drowning; Qiu Fu cured ghost-induced illness effectively, sparing the soul from sorrow. Reflecting on the methods, internal and external severances must be distinguished; weakness and fullness must be differentiated. Do not needle after severe exertion, lest it cause Qi chaos and spirit confusion; be cautious with breathing, preventing fainting and blood closure caused by improper needling. Often seeking ancient principles, because hidden mechanisms exist therein; encountering true masters allows for transcendent realization; meeting enlightened teachers clarifies order and danger. The circulation and combination of Qi and pulses in men and women occur at specific times; measuring nourishment moments to inject into acupoints, acupoints must align with current contexts, detailing disease protocols and establishing divine needle formulas. Extensively searching the secret texts of the *Nan Jing* and *Su Wen*, deeply examining the elbow manuals and subtle speculations of various schools. Hence, it is called the *Zhiwei of Liuzhu* (Flowing Distribution) of Lu River, serving as rules for future learners.
