When hemorrhoids have not progressed deeply, moxibustion at Changqiang (Long Strong, GV1) alone is very effective. For chronic cases lasting many years, take a handful of Cinnamomi Ramulus (Huai Zhi, 槐枝) and the root of Isatidis Radix et Rhizoma (Ma Lan Cai Gen, 马蓝菜根), decoct in water to obtain three bowls of liquid. Use one and a half bowls; while hot, use a small-mouthed bottle to fumigate and wash the affected area until swelling subsides. Then apply moxibustion at the root of the original hemorrhoid (referred to as "rat milk" in the text); moxibustion at the tip is ineffective. Alternatively, wash the swollen area in a basin of medicinal liquid until swelling slightly recedes, then apply moxibustion. When a sensation of heat energy penetrating into the intestines and reaching the chest is felt, it indicates effectiveness. Apply more than twenty moxa cones. Avoid toxic foods thereafter for permanent cure. Subsequently, use a bamboo piece to shield the heat energy to prevent injury to the healthy skin on both sides.
If sudden onset of intestinal hernia occurs, along with all types of cold qi pathologies causing knotted pain around the umbilicus and abdomen, and urinary incontinence, moxibustion at Dadun (Great Market, LR1) is indicated. There are two points located at the tip of the big toe, approximately the width of a leek leaf from the nail, within the tuft of hair. Apply three moxa cones.
For sudden intestinal hernia accompanied by pain in the umbilical and abdominal regions, inability to move the four limbs, dysuria, heaviness of the body, and flaccidity of the legs, Sanyinjiao (Three Yin Intersection, SP6) is indicated. There are two points located three cun above the medial malleolus. Acupuncture to a depth of three fen and moxibustion of three cones are suitable, yielding excellent results.
Use the middle finger of the left hand for males and the right hand for females as a standard measure. At the tip of the coccyx (Wei Lu Gu, tailbone), measure inversely upwards to the end of one finger's width at the lumbar spine; this is the first point. Using the second finger, divide the distance from the central point equally to both sides, creating one point on each side separated by one finger-width. Apply seven moxa cones. Increasing the number of cones beyond this generally yields better efficacy. For deep-seated conditions, moxibustion may be repeated the following year, still using the middle finger as a standard, but adjusting the location through palpation at the time.
Take seven cun of Coptidis Rhizoma (Huang Lian, 黄连), crush it into powder. Take seven seeds of Crotonis Fructus (Ba Dou, 巴豆), remove the shell but retain the oil, and grind them together finely into a paste. If too dry, add two drops of water. Place this mixture into the umbilicus. Apply moxibustion to the abdomen until a sensation of comfort and free flow is felt.
Grind ten seeds of Crotonis Fructus (Ba Dou, 巴豆) into a pulp. Mix with one qian of flour, pound into a cake, and apply firmly to the center of the umbilicus. Place a moxa cone the size of a bean on top and apply seven cones. When rumbling sounds are felt in the abdomen and bowel movements become normal after some time, proceed to the next step. Bind a bunch of Allii Fistulosi Bulbus (Cong Bai, 葱白) tightly, slice into cakes, apply moxibustion to make them hot, and use to warm-moxa (iron) the lower abdomen. Further, use a heated iron to press the cake, generating true qi, gradually warming the body temperature. Then administer Wuji San (Five Accumulations Powder, 2 qian) mixed with one qian of Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fu Zi, 附子) powder. Decoct with one and a half cups of water, adding ginger, jujube, and a pinch of salt. Simmer until reduced to seventy percent. Take warm, divided into three doses daily. Sweating will occur spontaneously, leading to recovery.
