The profound mystery of the golden needle has long been praised as wondrous; by carefully deducing according to the meridians, what doubt could there be? Within the twelve primary meridians and fifteen collaterals, the Five Elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth) remain unchanging. The Eight Extraordinary Vessels include the Yang Qiao and Yin Qiao vessels. For deficiency patterns, use tonification methods by rotating the needle inward; for excess patterns, use sedation methods by rotating the needle outward. One may tonify True Yang to restore Yuan Qi, or sedate residual pathogens so that the disease departs. If one truly understands the subtleties within, all under heaven will regard you as benevolent, calling you a superior physician.

The Five Zang organs and Pericardium lack Yuan-Source points; the Six Fu organs possess Yuan-Source points. The Five Zang organs and Pericardium correspond to Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water; the Six Fu organs correspond to Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, and Earth. That which generates me is the Mother; that which I generate is the Child. If the meridian itself is deficient, it is appropriate to tonify its Mother; if the meridian itself is excessive, it is appropriate to sedate its Child. This applies to all twelve meridians. Master Hua states: "The Jing-Well points are located where muscle tissue is thin; when sedating a Jing-Well point, one should sedate the Ying-Spring point instead; when tonifying a Jing-Well point, one should tonify the He-Sea point instead."
