Section 8: From the first vertebra down to the sacrococcygeal joint, there are forty-two acupoints in total.
For those acupoints where the Qi of the five Zang organs (Five Viscera) emerges on the back, pressing the location should result in pain relief and resolution of the pathogenic factor; only then is it the correct acupoint. These points are suitable for moxibustion but not for acupuncture. For excess conditions, use the reducing method; for deficiency conditions, use the tonifying method. When using fire therapy for tonification, do not blow on the fire; wait for it to extinguish naturally. When using fire therapy for reduction, quickly blow on the fire to intensify it, press upon the mugwort, and wait for the flame to extinguish.
Dazhu (BL11), located below the first cervical/thoracic vertebra (depending on interpretation of 'first vertebra' in context of neck/back junction, typically C7/T1 area in modern mapping, but text says "neck first vertebra"), one and a half cun lateral to the spine, in the depression. It is the meeting point of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian and Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. Puncture depth: 0.3 cun; retain needle for seven breaths; moxibustion: 7 cones. (Note from *Qixue Lun*: This is the convergence of the collateral branch of the Du Meridian and the three meridians of Hand and Foot Taiyang.)
Fengmen (DU12/BL12 context, often identified as BL12), also known as Refu (Heat Mansion), located below the second thoracic vertebra, one and a half cun lateral to the spine. It is the meeting point of the Du Meridian and the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Puncture depth: 0.5 cun; retain needle for five breaths; moxibustion: 3 cones.
Feishu (BL13), located below the third thoracic vertebra, one and a half cun lateral to the spine. Puncture depth: 0.3 cun; retain needle for seven breaths; moxibustion: 3 cones. (Note from *Qifu Lun*: This is the convergence of the Back-Shu points of the five Zang organs and the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian.)
Xinshu (BL15), located below the fifth thoracic vertebra, one and a half cun lateral to the spine. Puncture depth: 0.3 cun; retain needle for seven breaths; moxibustion is prohibited.

Danshu (BL19), located below the tenth thoracic vertebra, one and a half cun lateral to the spine. It is where the Qi of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian issues. The patient should sit upright to locate the point. Puncture depth: 0.5 cun; moxibustion: 3 cones. (Note from *Qifu Lun*: Retain needle for seven breaths. Note from *Bi Lun*: The Back-Shu points of the Gallbladder, Stomach, Sanjiao, Large Intestine, Small Intestine, and Bladder all belong to the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian.)
