Eighteen Acupoints of the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian on Both Sides
Shaochong (SH9). Wood element. Also known as Jingshi. Located at the radial corner of the little finger nail, approximately the width of a leek leaf from the nail angle. (The *Mingtang* notes it as "side".) Needle depth: 1 fen. Moxibustion: 3 moxa cones. The *Mingtang* records: 1 cone.
Shaofu (HT8). Fire element. Located in the depression distal to the metacarpophalangeal joint of the little finger, directly opposite Laogong (PC8). (Laogong belongs to the Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian.)
Needle depth: 2 fen. Moxibustion: 7 moxa cones. The *Mingtang* records: 3 cones.
Shenmen (HT7). Earth element. Also known as Duichong. Located in the depression at the ulnar end of the wrist crease, adjacent to the pisiform bone. Moxibustion: 7 moxa cones, sized like a wheat grain. Needle depth: 3 fen. Retain needle for 7 breaths.
Yinxi (HT6). Located in the pulse at the wrist crease, 5 fen proximal to the wrist transverse crease. Needle depth: 3 fen. Moxibustion: 7 moxa cones.
Tongli (HT5). Located in the depression 1 cun proximal to the wrist crease. Needle depth: 3 fen. Moxibustion: 3 moxa cones. The *Mingtang* records: 7 cones.
Lingdao (HT4). Metal element. Located 1.5 cun or 1 cun proximal to the wrist crease. Moxibustion: 3 moxa cones. Needle depth: 3 fen.
Shaohai (HT3). Water element. Also known as Qujie. Located in the depression posterior to the medial epicondyle of the humerus. Another description states: lateral to the large bone of the elbow, 5 fen from the elbow tip, accessible with the elbow flexed.
Needle depth: 3 fen. Moxibustion: 3 moxa cones. Zhen Quan stated: Take the point with the hand flexed towards the head. It treats cold teeth and brain-wind headache. Moxibustion is contraindicated. Needle depth: 5 fen. The *Mingtang* records: At the head of the transverse crease of the elbow, take the point with the hand flexed towards the head in the depression. The *Jia Yi Jing* records: The point is in the depression medial to the elbow, where pulsation can be felt. Needle depth: 2 fen. Retain needle for 3 breaths. For reducing method, inhale 5 times. Moxibustion is generally contraindicated. However, later text mentions: Moxa 5 cones. The annotation of the *Suwen*: 5 cones.
The *Tongren* states: Moxa 3 cones. The *Mingtang*, *Xiajing*, and annotations of the *Suquan* all state: Moxa 5 cones. The *Shangjing* and Zhen Quan both state: Moxibustion is not suitable. This creates doubt. Unless it is an emergency, moxibustion is not necessary.
Qingling (HT6 - Note: Text likely refers to HT6 or a specific variation, but anatomically Qingling is SI8, here listed under Heart meridian context or potentially a textual error in source regarding location/meridian assignment, translating strictly as per text): Located 3 cun superior to the elbow tip. Take the point with the arm extended and raised. Moxibustion: 7 moxa cones. The lower note in the *Mingtang* says: 3 cones.
Jiquan (HT1). Located between the tendons in the axilla, over the arterial pulse, extending into the chest. Moxibustion: 7 moxa cones. Needle depth: 3 fen.
