Back pain is caused by labor. People engaged in crafts, and scholars or women working diligently, often suffer from this. (Scholars' calligraphy practice and women's needlework both lead to back pain through diligence). Color-related labor (sexual exhaustion) also causes this disease; Duke Jing of Jin is an example. Only Gaohuang (BL43) is the crucial acupoint. I once felt slight hidden pain at a spot next to Gaohuang, four and a half cun away from the spine; pressing it made the pain worse. I casually applied three small moxa cones, and the pain ceased immediately. Later, one day the pain extended to the shoulder, but treating the shoulder pain site cured it. Only then did I realize that the "Ashi points" mentioned in Qianjin Fang are indeed reliable. (Whenever I encounter heat, the area of Gaohuang produces cold sweat; this had lasted for years, and was cured by moxibustion.)
