The Zang organs contain vital areas that must be carefully examined. The Liver Qi arises on the left, the Lung Qi is stored on the right, the Heart Qi spreads to the exterior, the Kidney Qi governs the interior, the Spleen acts as the messenger, and the Stomach serves as the market. Above the diaphragm (Ge) and Huang (the empty space above the diaphragm without flesh), there are the "Parents" (Yang Qi is called Father, Yin Blood is called Mother; the Lung governs Qi and the Heart governs Blood, representing the image of Parents). Beside the seventh vertebra from below, there is the "Small Heart" (This refers to the Gate of Life at the seventh vertebra of the lower body, which is the Minister Fire. The Minister Fire performs functions on behalf of the Monarch Heart, hence it is called the Small Heart). Following this brings fortune, while opposing it brings blame. If the needle pierces the Heart, death occurs in one day, with belching (Yi) as the sign. If the needle pierces the Liver, death occurs in five days, with incoherent speech (Yu) as the sign. If the needle pierces the Kidney, death occurs in six days, with sneezing (Ti) as the sign. If the needle pierces the Lung, death occurs in three days, with coughing (Ke) as the sign. If the needle pierces the Spleen, death occurs in ten days, with swallowing (Tun) as the sign (Spleen injury draws saliva for self-rescue). If the needle pierces the Gallbladder, death occurs in one and a half days, with vomiting (Ou) as the sign. Piercing the large vessel above the dorsum pedis with unceasing bleeding leads to death. Piercing the flowing vessels in the face may unfortunately result in blindness. Piercing the Naohu point into the brain causes immediate death. Piercing the sublingual vessels excessively, leading to unceasing bleeding, results in aphonia. Piercing the network vessels distributed under the foot without blood flow results in swelling. Piercing the large vessel in the popliteal fossa causes collapse and pallor. Piercing the vessel at Qichong without blood flow results in swelling in the groin area. Piercing the spine into the marrow causes kyphosis (stooping curvature unable to straighten). Piercing above the breast damaging the mammary gland results in abscesses with internal erosion. Piercing Zhongwan too deeply causes Qi leakage, leading to wheezing, coughing, and reverse breathing (deep penetration leaks Lung Qi). Piercing the Yuji area too deeply causes swelling. Do not needle when greatly intoxicated, as it disrupts Qi; do not needle when greatly angry, as it causes Qi to rise; do not needle when greatly fatigued; do not needle when newly full; do not needle when greatly hungry; do not needle when greatly thirsty; do not needle when greatly startled. Piercing the large vessel in the medial thigh with unceasing bleeding leads to death. Piercing Guanchong too deeply damages the vessel, causing internal leakage and deafness. Releasing fluid from the patella causes limping. Excessive bleeding from the Hand Taiyin vessel leads to immediate death. Bleeding from the Foot Shaoyin vessel in a state of severe deficiency causes tongue stiffness and difficulty speaking. Piercing the chest deeply damaging the Lung causes wheezing and dyspnea requiring supine position. Piercing the elbow too deeply causes Qi to gather there, resulting in inability to flex or extend. Piercing three cun below the medial thigh too deeply causes urinary incontinence. Piercing the axillary and hypochondriac regions too deeply causes coughing. Piercing the lower abdomen damaging the Bladder causes urine leakage and abdominal fullness. Piercing the Large Intestine too deeply causes swelling. Piercing the vessels in the supraorbital bone causes fistula or blindness. Releasing fluid from joints causes inability to flex or extend (tendons lose nourishment and moisture).
