Acupuncture and moxibustion methods for edema at the junctions of the four limbs and on the face: Moxibustion on Shuifen (CV9, Water Division) and Qihai (CV6, Sea of Qi) will cause the edema to subside. ○ For edema, only needling Shuigou (GV26, Water Ditch) is effective; if other acupoints are needled, once the body's fluids are exhausted, the patient will die. Quack doctors often needle Shuifen, causing many deaths; only moxibustion on Shuifen is the most crucial point, as this point can differentiate water metabolism and prevent pathological fluid accumulation. A patient with edema was treated with moxibustion on Shuifen and Qihai, and the next day their facial swelling had disappeared as if shaved off (from *Zisheng Jing*).
Acupuncture methods for abdominal distension and bloating: Select Neiting (ST44, River Mouth). ○ For water gu (water accumulation disease), select Pianli (SI7, Offset Ridge). ○ For drum distension (tympanites), prick two cun deep at points above, below, left, and right of the umbilicus. ○ For isolated abdominal distension, select Shuifen (CV9); needle one and a half cun deep, or apply fifty moxa cones. ○ For fullness and distension, select Zusanli (ST36, Leg Three Miles) and reduce. ○ For all types of distension, Zusanli is selected as it is the key acupoint for treating distension. ○ Alternatively, select Zhongwan (CV12, Middle of the Stomach) and Qihai (CV6, Sea of Qi), either by needling or moxibustion (from *Gangmu*).
Acupuncture methods for malaria during its onset: When Yin and Yang qi are about to shift, the pathogen must start from the extremities. Since Yang has been injured and Yin follows, bind the affected area tightly before the attack occurs. Carefully observe; if the collateral vessels (Sunluo, superficial capillaries) are full, firm, and contain blood, puncture them to bleed (from *Neijing*). ○ This refers to using a three-edged needle to bleed the Sunluo. ○ For all malaria cases, first ask where the symptoms began, and needle that site first. ○ For chronic malaria that does not resolve, needle Dazhui (GV14, Great Vertebra) first, then moxibustate thirty-seven cones; some say this refers to the third thoracic vertebra spinous process. ○ For various malaria cases where the pulse is imperceptible, prick the spaces between the ten fingers until blood flows, and the illness will surely be cured; first examine the body for red spots like small beans and treat all of them. ○ For malaria, selecting Jianshi (PC5, Intercalated Sinew) is excellent. ○ If the malaria pulse is slow, large, and deficient, medication is appropriate, and acupuncture should be avoided (from *Gangmu*).
The fifty-nine acupuncture points for treating febrile diseases: ○ Five rows of five points each on the head are used to vent rebellious heat from the Yang meridians. The central row refers to Shangxing (GV23, Upper Star), Xinhui (GV22, Fontanel Meeting), Qian Ding (GV20, Front Vertex), Baihui (GV20, Hundred Convergences - note: text lists both Qian Ding and Baihui but GV20 is Qian Ding, Baihui is GV20 in standard numbering but text implies distinct locations in context of 5 points, usually GV20-24 range), Hou Ding (GV19, Rear Vertex). The lateral sides refer to Chengguang (BL9, Receiving Light), Tongtian (BL7, Connecting Heaven), Luoque (BL8, Network Seclusion), Yuzhen (BL9/BL8 adjacent? Text says Yuzhen Tianzhu, likely BL11/Dazhui area or specific neck points, strictly translating names): Yuzhen (GB15, Jade Pillow), Tianzhu (BL10, Heavenly Pillar), totaling ten points. The further lateral sides refer to Linqi (GB15? Text says Linqi, likely referring to Gallbladder channel points near eye/head), Mucuang (GB14, Eye Window), Zhengying (GB15, Correctly Nourishing), Chengling (GB16, Receiving Spirit), Naokong (GB13, Brain Hollow), totaling ten points. ○ Dazhu (BL11, Great Clavicle), Ying Shu (i.e., Zhongfu LU1, Central Palace), Quepen (LI15, Shoulder Well), Bei Shu (i.e., Fengmen BL12, Wind Gate), these eight points are used to drain heat from the Stomach. ○ Yunmen (LU2, Cloud Gate), Gu (i.e., Jianyu LI15, Shoulder Bone), Weizhong (BL40, Central Pool), Sui Kong (i.e., Yaoshu BL23, Kidney Shu - note: text identifies Sui Kong as Yaoshu, typically BL2 is Yaoshu, BL23 is Shenshu. Text says "Sui Kong (i.e. Yaoshu)", likely referring to the sacral region points), these eight points are used to drain heat from the four limbs. ○ The five pairs of points beside the Back-Shu points of the five Zang organs, these ten points are used to drain heat from the five Zang organs (from *Neijing*).
