Human beings receive their vital essence from the father and take form from the mother. The flesh and bones are formed first, which is the root of Sheng Qi (Vital Energy) and belongs to the Yuan Zang (Primordial Viscera). Water generates Liver, and Liver belongs to Wood; Wood generates Heart, and Heart belongs to Fire; Fire generates Stomach, and Stomach belongs to Earth; Earth generates Large Intestine, and Large Intestine belongs to Metal; Metal generates Bladder, and Bladder generates San Jiao (Triple Burner); San Jiao has eight extraordinary vessels; the eight extraordinary vessels have twelve primary meridians; the twelve primary meridians generate 184 collateral vessels; the collateral vessels generate 365 bone joints; the bone joints generate 284 fine vessels; front and back generate hair and skin/flesh; skin/flesh generate blood and flesh; above there is hair, below there is skin and flesh; under the flesh are sinews; under the sinews are bones; bones and flesh transform into Marrow; Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) circulates within the vessels, while Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) circulates outside the vessels; when the five Zang organs are in harmony, there is no disease. If the controlling cycle is excessive or deficient, it indicates pathology. However, the盈 (excess) and 亏 (deficiency) of the five Zang organs and their corresponding symptoms become naturally clear. East is Excess (Liver Wood is hyperactive), West is Deficient (Lung Metal is insufficient); drain South (Heart Fire), tonify North (Kidney Water). "East is Excess" means Wood Qi is excessive; "West is Deficient" means Metal Qi is insufficient; "Drain South" means Fire Qi is excessive; "Tonify North" means Water Qi is insufficient. Thus, the excess or deficiency of the Five Elements leads to disease. If Wood Qi ascends and Fire Qi descends, Metal Qi clears and Wood Qi is balanced, the Five Elements achieve equilibrium, the pulse is harmonious, how could one fall ill? Now, my medical practice follows Wang Shuhe's pulse diagnosis and expounds on Zhang Zhongjing's writings, investigating the source of all diseases. If effective, this book is named *Shi Yan Lu* (Record of Trials and Verification). Passed down to posterity for reference and use, can it be neglected?
Women's diseases vary, but many arise from Lao Shang (Exhaustion Injury), Pian Yu (Partial Depression), You Si (Worry and Overthinking), and Shi Ji (Food Retention). Yin nature is inherently weak and cannot withstand烦 (disturbance). For housewives or women with excessive desires, overwork damages sinews and bones; imprudent sexual activity depletes Jing Shen (Spirit). Consequently, Blood, Qi, and Jin Ye (Body Fluids) gradually deplete in the meridians and are daily consumed by the viscera. Without proper regulation and treatment, both Yin and Yang become deficient, leading to Bone Steaming Fever, resulting in Lao Shang syndrome. Women have diverse temperaments, often rigid and fixed. Widows and nuns, or maids and concubines, have desires stirred internally but cannot fulfill their hearts; their bodies are constrained externally but cannot express their wills. Thus, Yu Nv (Depressive Qi) accumulates in the San Jiao (Triple Burner) and stagnates in the chest and diaphragm. After long accumulation, alternating chills and fever occur, resembling Malaria but not being so, forming Pian Yu syndrome. Although Yin is quiet, movement is inevitable; the five natures manifest through the seven emotions. Moreover, women are gentle yet desire-heavy, lacking resolve to cut off passions. When encountering external stimuli, worry and overthinking easily arise. Worry injures Lung; overthinking damages Spleen. With Spleen and Lung injured, Blood and Qi stagnate, generating symptoms such as resentment, palpitations, distension, fullness, dryness, and constipation. Undigested food forms retention; the gathering of retention is due to diet. Food nourishes humans but can also harm them. Women manage household affairs and guard the inner quarters. Their transformation and transportation are slow; irregular diet, improper consumption of cold/raw foods, damage the Spleen and Stomach. Damaged Spleen and Stomach lead to impaired transport, causing Pi Man (Distension and Fullness), masses, vomiting, and dysentery. Generally, Lao Shang has internal and external distinctions; Pian Yu differs from Liu Yu (Six Types of Stagnation). You Si creates formless disease; Shi Ji creates tangible disease. Treatment requires examining the cause, observing pulse principles, inspecting complexion and listening to voice, striving to distinguish excess and deficiency. For Lao Shang, apply tonification and nourishment; for You Si, apply resolution and dispersal; for Yu, apply opening and unblocking; for Shi Ji, apply digestion and elimination. Prescribing according to symptoms yields efficacy. This merely states the general principles of differentiation. As for Lou Beng (Leaking and Flooding), Niao Lin (Dysuria), Tai Chan (Pregnancy and Childbirth), and Jing Shui (Menstruation) conditions, they are based on *Da Quan*, *Liang Fang*, *Chan Bao*, and other texts. By adapting and understanding these, one may serve as a savior in Gynecology.
