[Diagram of Eyelids Adhering to the Eye]
When the eyelids adhere to the eyeball, it is caused by wind-deficiency in the Spleen and Stomach, with cold-weak pathogenic factors accumulating in the eyelids. This leads to redness, dampness, and ulceration of the palpebrae (eyelids). Deficient heat in the Liver and Diaphragm causes viscous ocular discharge. During sleep at night, the upper and lower eyelids become glued together tightly. Blood stasis fails to dissipate, and over time, a nebula (corneal opacity) gradually forms. Treatment method: It is suitable to use the "Yin One Yang Three Blow Point" technique. If the condition has persisted for years, the eyelids gradually thicken. Although this is not trichiasis (in-turned eyelashes), one can lift the eyelid to expose the cornea (black pupil) to dissipate blood qi. If there is blood stasis accumulated in the eyelids, washing is indicated; if there is swelling, itching, and erosion, wash with Bitian Dan (Blue Sky Powder). Every morning, fumigate and wash with Mulberry Bark (Morus Albae Cortex) mixed with salt. Alternatively, mulberry leaves that have not fallen after severe cold, known as "Iron Fan," decocted for washing, is extremely effective. Washing with a decoction of Chrysanthemum leaves is also acceptable. This refers to symptoms appearing after long-term illness; newly onset cases do not present these specific symptoms. Question: Why do eyes affected for many years have adherent eyelids that cannot open clearly? Answer: The Spleen and Stomach are injured by wind-cold. Pathogenic factors accumulate for a long time without dissipating, causing Qi and Blood stagnation. Over time, they knot and fail to open, accompanied by intermittent ocular discharge and tearing, resulting in blurred vision. Treatment method: For chronic conditions lasting years, Danggui Huoxue Decoction (Angelica Sinensis Blood-Invigorating Decoction) or Shenqing San (Divine Clarity Powder) should be used primarily. For recent onset, Chanhua San (Cicada Flower Powder) or Mimenghua San (Buddleja Officinalis Powder) should be used primarily. If the condition persists without cure, and long-term knotting causes eyelid adhesion and thickening, although it is not trichiasis, the eyelid can be lifted and strong medicated drops applied, but Borneol (Ice Camphor) should not be used.
[Chronic Deficient Cold]
Danggui Huoxue Decoction (Angelica Sinensis Blood-Invigorating Decoction): Treats wind-cold accumulating for a long time causing eyelid adhesion. Take orally.
Ingredients: Angelicae Radix (Danggui), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Myrrha (Moyao), Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong) [Do not use if Qi and Blood are vigorous], Atractylodis Rhizoma (Cangzhu), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie), Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe), Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata (Shudihuang), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo), Chrysanthemi Flos (Juhua), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang).
Grind the above ingredients into powder equally. Form pills the size of a bullet using refined honey. Chew one pill finely after each meal, swallow with clear tea, three times daily.
[Long-term Wind Pathogen Exposure]
Shenqing San (Divine Clarity Powder): Treats wind-toxin injuring the palpebrae, forming corneal opacities that gradually shrink. Take orally.
Ingredients: Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxuan), Menthae Haplocalycis Herba (Bohe), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi), Ligustici Wallichii Rhizoma (Gaben), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie), Aconiti Radix (Chuanwu), Aurantii Fructus (Zhike), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Asari Radix et Rhizoma (Xixin), Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang) [Equal parts].

[When There Is No Pain]
Chanhua San (Cicada Flower Powder): Treats heat-toxin accumulating in the Liver Meridian damaging the Liver, attacking upward to the eyes, causing redness, swelling, excessive tearing, and photophobia. It treats all wind-toxin injuries to the Liver.
Ingredients: Ostreae Concha (Gu Jingcao - note: typically refers to Ostreae Concha or similar, here likely Gujingcao/Gu Jing Cao), Chrysanthemi Flos (Juhua), Cicadae Periostracum (Chantui), Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix (Qianghuo), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Viticis Fructus (Manjingzi), Tribuli Fructus (Jili), Cassiae Semen (Juemingzi), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi), Buddlejae Flos (Mimenghua), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingshisui), Equiseti Herba (Muzei).
