Xiao Chi Mai Chuan Jing (Small Red Veins Transmitting to the Eye Canthus) is caused by deficiency of Heart Qi. It differs from Da Chi Mai Chuan Jing (Large Red Veins Transmitting to the Eye Canthus); treatment requires distinguishing between two syndromes for separate management. The Heart is the master of the Five Zang organs and the ancestor of the Six Fu organs, belonging to the South, symbolizing the ruler of Yang virtue. Fire generates Earth; Fire is the mother of Earth. If Spleen Earth excess becomes prominent, it leads to relative deficiency of Heart Fire. Treatment should first drain the excess of Spleen Earth, followed by tonifying the deficiency of the Heart. This condition often arises from staying near lamps at night, overworking the Heart Meridian, resulting in weak Heart Qi and impaired blood circulation, with stasis accumulating in the inner canthus. These two conditions are described here for future students to recognize. However, this syndrome is suitable for herbal medicine treatment and does not require needling or cutting procedures.
