Pain resembling the affliction of spirits (Tong Ru Shen Sui, pain mimicking spiritual haunting): Historically lacking a fixed pathological basis, this condition is named solely based on its extremely bizarre nature: sometimes pain occurs during the day and resolves at night, or vice versa; the pain comes and goes suddenly without trace. Hence it is called "pain resembling the affliction of spirits." Could there truly be spirits causing harm to the eyes? In fact, this is caused by the excess of Yin or Yang, imbalance between movement and stillness, and mutual attack of Qi and Blood. In regions where witchcraft is believed in, some may recover due to the efficacy of prayer talismans, but this is merely coincidental recovery as the disease pathogen is about to be expelled, not "spiritual eye disease," so such claims are incorrect. Treatment method: When pain occurs, apply moxa and scallion compresses (Ai Cong Yi). Take Jiu Jian San (Wine-Boiled Powder) one to two doses to alleviate pain. Apply contemporary eye drops. Wash the eyes with a decoction of Dang Gui Wei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), and Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) to stop pain and dispel blood stasis.
Question: Why does the interior of the eye appear neither red nor swollen, yet experience sudden pain resembling the affliction of spirits? Answer: This is due to the disharmony of Yin and Yang ascending and descending, and the excess of Qi and Blood leading to mutual attack. Patients with Blood deficiency may experience pain in the afternoon, while those with excessive Qi flourishing may experience pain in the morning. For afternoon pain, Zhu Yang He Xue Tang (Yang-Assisting and Blood-Nourishing Decoction) is appropriate. For morning pain, Jiu Tiao Xi Gan San (Liver-Washing Powder Adjusted with Wine) and Ming Mu Liu Qi Yin (Eye-Brightening and Qi-Circulating Drink) should be taken, along with cooling eye drops. Another type presents with constant needle-like pain, caused by the conflict between new and old blood; the treatment method is the same.
[For Qi and Blood Deficiency]
Zhu Yang He Xue Tang (Yang-Assisting and Blood-Nourishing Decoction): Treats disordered Qi and Blood, symptoms resembling spiritual affliction, and needle-like pain.

Combine as one dose. Add 1.5 zhong of water, decoct until 0.8 zhong remains, and take warm. Rest in a wind-sheltered place afterward. The dregs may also be consumed.
[For Pain Caused by Heat Qi Attacking]
Jiu Tiao Xi Gan San (Liver-Washing Powder Adjusted with Wine): Treats unregulated upward attack of heat qi in the eyes, specifically for pain in the cornea (Hei Jing).
Hei Shen (Black Ginseng/Scrophularia), Da Huang (Rhubarb Root), Jie Geng (Platycodon Root), Zhi Mu (Anemarrhena Rhizome), Pu Xiao (Mirabilite), Zhi Zi (Gardenia Fruit), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root).

[For Heat Qi Stagnation and Knotting]
