Treats cases where excessive sweating has occurred, and the patient crosses their hands over the heart area, experiencing palpitations (Palpitations) that are relieved by pressure. This formula is indicated for such conditions.
Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, four liang) Gancao (Licorice Root, two liang, honey-fried.)
Take the above two herbs. Add three sheng of water, decoct to obtain one sheng, remove the dregs, and take in a single dose.
Song says: Guizhi and honey-fried Gancao utilize their sweet and warm properties. Four liang of Guizhi and two liang of Gancao; the medication is not complicated. Crossing hands over the heart indicates extreme deficiency. Excessive sweating leads to fluid loss, which is the root cause.
Zhanglingshao states: This is due to excessive sweating injuring Heart Qi (Heart Qi). Sweat is the fluid of the Heart. Excessive sweating empties the Heart fluid, leading to a preference for pressure. Therefore, Guizhi is used to protect Heart Qi.
Treats cases after sweating where the patient experiences palpitations below the umbilicus, suggesting an impending Ben Tun (Rushing Pig - a condition characterized by a sensation of gas rushing up from the lower abdomen to the chest/throat). This formula is indicated.
Fuling (Poria, half jin) Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, four liang) Gancao (Licorice Root, four liang, honey-fried.) Dazao (Jujube, fifteen pieces)
Take the above four herbs. Use one dou of Ganlan Water (Gentle Wave Water), first decoct Fuling until the volume reduces by two sheng, then add the remaining herbs. Decoct to obtain three sheng, remove the dregs. Take one sheng warm, three times daily.
Method for making Ganlan Water: Take one dou of water, place it in a basin, and use a ladle to scoop and throw the water repeatedly until five or six thousand bead-like droplets form on the surface, chasing each other. Use this water.
Song says: Eight liang of Fuling with four liang of Guizhi. Four liang of honey-fried Gancao can treat palpitations. Fifteen Jujubes support the Middle Earth (Spleen/Stomach). Use Ganlan Water twice during decoction. (Based on Cheng Zhi's version.)
Wei notes: This treats Kidney Qi (Kidney Qi) injured by sweating. Guizhi protects Heart Qi above, while Fuling calms Kidney Qi below. Both herbs can transform Water Qi (Water Pathogenic Factor) of the Taiyang (Greater Yang) channel. It is a miraculous formula.
Treats abdominal fullness occurring after sweating. This formula is indicated.
Houpo (Magnolia Bark, half jin, honey-fried, bark removed) Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, half jin) Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, half sheng, washed) Gancao (Licorice Root, two liang) Renshen (Ginseng Root, one liang)
Take the above five herbs. Add one dou of water, decoct to obtain three sheng, remove the dregs. Take one sheng warm, three times daily.
Song says: Half a jin of Houpo and half a jin of Shengjiang. One part Renshen and two parts Gancao must be distinguished. Half a sheng of Banxia best eliminates false fullness. The method for harmonizing after sweating stands out.
Zhanglingshao states: This treats Spleen Qi (Spleen Qi) injured by sweating. Sweat is the Jin-Ye (Body Fluids) derived from grain and water in the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner). After sweating, Jin-Ye loss leads to Spleen Qi deficiency. When Spleen Qi is deficient, it cannot transport and transform. Thus generating Jin-Ye. When Jin-Ye is sufficient, upper and lower interact, and the fullness naturally dissipates.
