After eating, if there is a desire to vomit, it belongs to Yangming disease (disease of the Stomach channel), and Wuzhuyu Tang (Evodia Decoction) is the primary treatment. If symptoms worsen after taking the decoction, it belongs to the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), and should be treated accordingly.
In Shaoyin disease (disease of the Kidney/Heart channel) presenting with vomiting and diarrhea, cold extremities reaching the hands and elbows (Jue Ni), and severe irritability as if dying, Wuzhuyu Tang (Evodia Decoction) is the primary treatment. In Jueyin disease (disease of the Liver/Pericardium channel) presenting with dry heaving, spitting of saliva and foam, and extremely severe headache, Wuzhuyu Tang (Evodia Decoction) is the primary treatment.
Spontaneous diarrhea without thirst belongs to Taiyin disease (disease of the Spleen/Stomach channel), due to internal organ coldness; Si Ni Tang (Counterflow Decoction) or similar formulas are appropriate. In Taiyin disease, if the hands and feet are naturally warm and the pulse is floating, Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) is indicated.
At the onset of illness, if the hands and feet are cold and the pulse is wiry and slow, this indicates excess in the Stomach; purgation is contraindicated, and emesis should be induced. However, if there is cold fluid retention above the diaphragm causing dry heaving, emesis is contraindicated; warming is required, and Si Ni Tang (Counterflow Decoction) is the primary treatment.
In Shaoyin disease, if the pulse is deep, immediate warming is required, and Si Ni Tang (Counterflow Decoction) is indicated. Following profuse sweating or diarrhea with cold extremities, Si Ni Tang (Counterflow Decoction) is the primary treatment. With profuse sweating, persistent fever, internal cramping, limb pain, accompanied by diarrhea, cold extremities, and aversion to cold, Si Ni Tang (Counterflow Decoction) is the primary treatment.
For diarrhea with abdominal distension and generalized body pain, the interior must be warmed first before attacking the exterior. Warming the interior is suitable with Si Ni Tang (Counterflow Decoction), while attacking the exterior is suitable with Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction).
If vomiting occurs with a weak pulse, clear urination, slight fever, and cold extremities, it is difficult to treat; Si Ni Tang (Counterflow Decoction) is the primary treatment. For Jueyin disease presenting with vomiting, diarrhea, sweating, fever with aversion to cold, limb cramping, and cold extremities, Si Ni Tang (Counterflow Decoction) is the primary treatment.
With vomiting, diarrhea, clear urination, profuse sweating, diarrhea of undigested food, interior cold with exterior heat, and a faint pulse nearly imperceptible, Si Ni Tang (Counterflow Decoction) is the primary treatment.
When suffering from fever and headache but without body pain, the interior must be rescued; Si Ni Tang (Counterflow Decoction) is the primary treatment.
In Shaoyin disease, presenting with diarrhea of undigested food, interior cold with exterior heat, cold extremities, and a faint pulse nearly imperceptible, yet the body does not feel cold, and the person’s face is red, or accompanied by abdominal pain, dry heaving, sore throat, or cessation of diarrhea with no pulse emerging, Tongmai Si Ni Tang (Pulse-Returning Counterflow Decoction) is the primary treatment.
For diarrhea of undigested food, interior cold with exterior heat, sweating, and cold extremities, Tongmai Si Ni Tang (Pulse-Returning Counterflow Decoction) is the primary treatment. This belongs to Jueyin disease.
For cold extremities and a fine pulse nearly imperceptible, Danggui Sini Tang (Angelica Sinensis Decoction for Reversing Cold Extremities) is the primary treatment.
