Formulas for treating body and axillary odor resembling that of a fox, commonly known in the world as *Hu Chou* (Fox Odor).
Burn high-quality alum (*Fan Shi*) to powder, place it in a silk bag, and frequently apply it to the axillae. It will not take more than ten applications. (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 23)
Treating *Hu Chou* with axillary leakage. There is congenital *Hu Chou* and there is acquired *Hu Chou* contracted from others. Congenital cases are difficult to treat, while acquired cases are easier to cure. However, one must continuously apply Bai Fan San (White Alum Powder) for three years without stopping, and simultaneously take Wu Xiang Wan (Five-Spice Pills), then recovery can be achieved. Do not say that applying medicine once leads to a cure; it only provides temporary relief during the application period.
Generally, individuals suffering from *Hu Chou* should strictly avoid consuming You Mai (Rapeseed/Brassica napus) and Wu Xin (Five Pungent Spices: garlic, chives, leeks, alliums, and asafoetida). If treatment fails lifelong, it is due to dietary indiscretion. This is a note on treating *Hu Chou*.
Xin Yi (Magnolia Flower), Xiong (Ligusticum wallichii / Chuanxiong), Xi Xin (Asarum), Du Heng (Peucedanum decursivum), Ben (Ligusticum sinense / Gaoben) (each 3 fen).
The above five herbs are cut into small pieces, soaked in bitter vinegar (Ku Jiu) overnight, decocted for three days, and the juice is extracted for topical application. Continue until cured. (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 23)
Formula for treating *Hu Chou*.
Mix Niu Zhi (Bovine Fat) and Hu Fen (Lead Carbonate/Basic Lead Carbonate) in an amount of 3 he, heat until it can be formed into pills, apply to the axillae, and it will heal overnight. (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 23)
Treating Axillary Leakage. The axillae, soles of the feet, palms, genital area, and inner thighs often remain moist like sweat, causing odor. Use the Liu Wu Hu Fen Fu Formula (Six-Ingredient Lead Powder Paste).
Gan Gou Qi Gen (Dried Root of Lycium chinense) (0.5 liang), Hu Fen (Lead Carbonate) (1 liang), Gan Shang Lu Gen (Dried Root of Phytolacca acinosa) (1 liang), Hua Shi (Talcum) (1 liang), Gan Qiang Wei Gen (Dried Root of Rosa multiflora) (0.5 liang), Gan Cao (Licorice Root) (0.5 liang).
The above herbs are crushed and sifted. Mix with vinegar to form a paste and apply to the axillae. Mild sweating should occur. Change clothes and reapply. Healing usually occurs within three applications. If it recurs, reapply. Do not over-apply to avoid damaging the axillary skin. It may also be applied to other areas. (From *Waitai Miyao*, Vol. 23)

The above four ingredients are ground into fine powder and applied to the axillae. Apply powder whenever exudate appears. (From *Zhouhou Beiji Fang*, Vol. 6)
