[Male Sparrow]
The flavor is sweet and salty, the nature is hot, it is non-toxic, and enters the Mingmen meridian. It primarily tonifies Qi and strengthens Yang. Its brain treats deafness and frostbite; its head blood treats sparrow blindness (nyctalopia). The feces are named Bai Ding Xiang (White Larkspur), which treats carbuncles and boils, can be applied to pterygium and blood membranes in the eye, eliminates Zheng Jia Fu Liang (masses and fixed lumps), and resolves Pi Ji Kuai (accumulated masses).
Note: The salty and hot nature of the sparrow makes it suitable for entering the Mingmen to supplement fire. However, if Ministerial Fire is excessively heated for a long time, Kidney Water will inevitably decline. It should not be taken in excess to avoid damaging the Kidneys; pregnant women are particularly advised to avoid consuming it. The efficacy of the brain blood and Bai Ding Xiang is derived from their salty and hot properties.
[Sparrow Egg]
The flavor is sour and warm, it is non-toxic. It primarily directs Qi downward, treats male impotence (Yin Wei) where erection does not occur, enhances sexual function to induce heat and erection, increases semen to facilitate conception, the brain treats deafness, and the head blood treats sparrow blindness. Male sparrow feces are used to treat toothache and eye pain, cure carbuncles and boils, treat leukorrhea in women, dysuria, and eliminate Shan Jia (hernia and masses). Collected in the fifth lunar month, it is considered optimal. The annotation states that those with two pointed ends are male sparrow feces.
Lei Gong said: When processing sparrow eggs, do not use sparrow feces. Those sparrows with yellow mouths that have not yet mated have feces attached to Su grass. If the base sits with the point upward, it is female; those with two rounded ends are male. Females should use male sparrow [eggs/feces context implies specific preparation], males should use female. When harvesting, first remove any parts adjacent to growing Aconite (Fuzi), then grind into powder in a mortar. Soak overnight in Gancao Tang (Licorice Decoction), discard the upper clear liquid, allow the Licorice water to be fully absorbed, then bake dry for use.
[Fu Yi / Bat]
The flavor is salty, the nature is slightly hot, it is toxic, and its meridian tropism is not recorded. It primarily expels the five types of Lin syndrome (dysuria), promotes urination, removes nebulae to brighten the eyes, induces joy and happiness, alleviates sorrow, and prolongs life when taken for a long time. The feces are named Ye Ming Sha (Night-Bright Sand), which breaks up blood and Qi stagnation in the abdomen, as well as cold-heat accumulations, and eliminates palpitations and fright. The blood can be applied to the eyes; specimens weighing one jin with color white as snow are considered superior.
Note: Fu Yi was originally named Bian Fu (Bat) because it hides during the day and flies at night. It can "hide" Qi (store essence), does not eat in winter, and thus lives long. Human consumption of it indeed contributes to longevity.
Lei Gong said: Only harvest those weighing one jin. Before processing, wipe away all skin, hair, claws, and intestines, retaining only the wings, flesh, feet, and beak. Then soak in wine overnight, drain, and coat with Huang Jing Zi Ran Zhi (natural juice of Polygonatum sibiricum). Roast until dry before use. For each batch weighing one jin (one specimen), use five liang of natural Huang Jing juice as the standard amount.
