有黑虎、有黄、有黄KT(此处原文可能有缺字或异体字,指某种特定蟾蜍)、有蝼蝈(蝼蛄?
Lei Gong said: When using the bark of Zelkova schneideriana (Zhu Pi), do not use those grown for three or four years, as they lack potency. Use those grown for twenty years or more; if the heart is hollow and only half grows towards the west, that is the correct one.
For processing, peel off with an axe, remove the outer rough bark, cut into fine shreds, steam from Si hour (9-11 AM) to Wei hour (1-3 PM), take out, and bake dry for use.
Lei Gong said: When using Huajiao (Sichuan Pepper, Zanthoxylum bungeanum), only use those without wrinkled shells inside, as they have greater efficacy. For Huajiao, use the shell; for Hujiao (Black Pepper, Piper nigrum), use the fruit.
After each selection and sorting, grind into powder in a stone trough for use.
Lei Gong said: When using Xiangshi (Acorn, Quercus variabilis nut), remove one layer of rough skin, steam the acorns from Si hour to Wei hour, take out, cut into five slices for use.
Lei Gong said: After harvesting, crush coarsely first, stir-fry with su (animal fat/butter) until the su is completely absorbed, then incorporate into medicine.
For every liang (approx. 37g) of herb, use two fen (approx. 0.37g) of su as the limit.
Lei Gong said: When using Mi Jiao (Elk Horn, Cervus elaphus antler), there should be yellow hair like golden threads at the top root of the horn tip, along with small sharp spikes growing on the sides. Those with pale white color are superior. Note: "Ganning Ji" records that this anomaly arises from deer playing with swimming dragons.
Lei Gong said: When using Shui Niao Long (Sea Bird Dragon, likely referring to Sea Dog/King Eider kidney or similar marine mammal organ), one must first carefully identify it, as there are many fakes. There is a beast in the sea called Shui Niao Long; fishermen catch it, kill it, and take its kidneys to sell in various places. In medicinal preparation, confusion may occur because the substance itself is distinct. It has a pair of features: two layers of thin skin wrapping a丸-shaped qi-meat core, with natural yellowish meat-hair on the skin; three stems share one pore, remaining moist year-round and looking new. Additionally, place it under the head of a sleeping dog; if the dog suddenly startles and goes mad, it is genuine.
If used, soak in wine for one day, wrap in paper, roast gently over fire until fragrant, cut into fine shreds, and pound alone for use.
Lei Gong said: When using Xia Ma (Toad, Bufo bufo gargarizans), there are many types; do not use them by mistake. There are Hei Hu (Black Tiger Toad), Huang (Yellow Toad), Huang KT (a specific type), Lou Gu (Mole Cricket? Context suggests toad variant), and Chan (Toad); their shapes differ. The Xia Ma has spots on its belly skin, short legs, and does not croak; Hei Hu is small and black with small spots on mouth and feet; Huang has spotted coloration, large front legs, small hind legs, and one tail. Huang KT is yellow all over, with an umbilical cord-like structure on the belly, about five to seven fen long. Wherever it resides...
When using Xia Ma, first remove the skin, intestines, and claws, dry in shade, then coat with su and roast until dry. For every jin (approx. 500g) processed, use one fen of niu su (cow butter/ghee), roasting until the su is fully absorbed.
