Ganmai Dazao Decoction (Licorice, Wheat, and Jujube Decoction) treats Zang Dryness (a syndrome characterized by dryness of the internal organs due to Yin and Blood deficiency) in women. [The general principle addresses the deficiency of Yin and Blood in the five Zang organs.] The patient feels sad and desires to cry, with behaviors resembling those possessed by spirits. [The Classic states: "The sound associated with the Lung is crying." It also states that grief is the emotion of the Lung. Furthermore, it says: "When the Liver is moved by sorrow and grief, the Hun (Ethereal Soul) is injured, leading to wild and irregular behavior." Ultimately, this is because the dryness of the Zang organs fails to nourish the Heart Spirit, causing the Hun and Po (Corporeal Souls) to become unsettled.] There is frequent yawning and stretching. [Yawning with an open mouth and stretching the waist. The Classic states: "Those who are ill often stretch and yawn frequently." It also states: "Both Lung diseases and Kidney diseases manifest as yawning and stretching."] Licorica Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, Licorice Root) [relaxes and drains Fire from the Pericardium, thereby rescuing the Lung and harmonizing the Stomach.] Triticum Aestivum (Chen Xiaomai, Aged Wheat) [harmonizes Liver Yin and nourishes Heart Fluids.] Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus (Dazao, Jujube Fruit) [tonifies the Spleen and benefits the Stomach and Lungs.]
This formula primarily uses sweet and moistening agents to regulate and tonify the Spleen and Stomach, as the Spleen and Stomach are the source of Qi and Blood production. When Blood is sufficient, dryness ceases, and the disease is naturally eliminated.
Zhigao Fa Jian (Pork Fat and Hair Decoction) [seen under Jaundice] treats downward leakage of Stomach Qi, presenting as Yin Chuī (flatulence through the vagina) with noisy sounds, which is due to excess of Grain Qi. [When intestinal fluids are dry and food stagnates without descending, Qi does not exit through the posterior orifice but instead leaks out through the anterior orifice, making a blowing sound.]
This formula moistens dryness and nourishes Blood, allowing the intestines to become lubricated so that food descends and Qi turns toward the posterior orifice; thus, when one pathway is unblocked, the other is sealed. Shen stated: For cases where there is no constipation, but Yin Chuī results from deficiency and sinking of Middle Qi, treatment should involve tonifying the Middle and lifting the sinking Qi; it cannot be generally categorized as Stomach Excess.
Banxia Houpo Tang (Pinellia and Magnolia Bark Decoction) treats the sensation of having a roasted meat slice stuck in the throat in women. [Qi rebellion causes obstruction; swallowing is difficult, and spitting it out is impossible, feeling like dried meat adhering to the throat.]
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) and Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) [resolve phlegm, dissipate nodules, and direct Qi downward.] Suzye (Perillae Folium) [invigorates Blood, warms the Middle, and moves Qi.] Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, Fresh Ginger) [moves Yang and disperses Qi.] Fuling (Poria) [regulates Phlegm congestion and guides rebellious Qi downward.]
Xu stated: In women, after childbirth or menstruation, Cold pathogens may invade the Uterus vacuously through the vaginal opening, ascend along the Ren Mai (Conception Vessel), and reach the throat, causing this condition. Men may also occasionally experience this due to upward rebellion of Cold-Phlegm and Cold Qi. I once treated a patient whose throat was frequently obstructed and cough could not expel anything; administering the aforementioned decoction resulted in immediate recovery. I believe: Many individuals with Yin Deficiency suffer from throat obstruction and inability to cough up secretions; this formula should not be used indiscriminately for all such cases.
Ye Langya Tang (Wolf's Tooth Herb Decoction) treats Yin erosion and ulceration. [Exuberant Damp-Heat flows into the genital region, generating sores. Steaming and transforming Damp-Heat into parasites erodes the genitals, leading to ulceration.]
Ye Langya (Herba Siegesbeckiae Orientalis, Oriental Siegesbeckia Herb) [a herb name, bitter and cold, slightly toxic. Treats malignant sores, clears Heat, and kills parasites. If unavailable, Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), or Tao Ye (Persicae Folium) can be used as substitutes. Decoct into a strong solution and wash frequently. Alternatively, wrap tightly in cotton like a cocoon, soak in the decoction, and drip into the vagina four to five times daily.]
Shechuangzi San (Cnidium Seed Powder) treats coldness in the vagina of women.
Shechuangzi (Cnidii Fructus, Cnidium Fruit) [grind into powder, mix with a small amount of honey water, form pills the size of jujubes, wrap in cotton, and insert into the vagina.] If the condition arises from Cold invading the Bao Men (Uterine Gate), accompanied by aversion to cold in the lower abdomen and pulling pain in the vaginal orifice, this formula can also be used. [Since Cold enters through the vaginal orifice, warming the site of pathogenic invasion leads to recovery.]
