Cui Zhe Bie Jia (Vinegar-processed Turtle Shell), Tu Chao Bai Zhu (Earth-fried Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Mi Zhi Huang Qi (Honey-processed Astragali Radix), Jiu Bai Shao (Wine-processed Paeoniae Radix Alba), and Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma) each 1 qian, Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-processed Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) 0.5 qian, decocted in water for oral administration.
Ye Ming Sha (Pharotis Eyelid) 3 qian, taken orally with tea on an empty stomach.
For persistent malaria and dysentery, burn Gui Ke (Tortoise Shell) until it retains its medicinal properties (Cun Xing), grind into powder, and take a small amount mixed with wine; this is extremely effective.
On the morning of Li Qiu (Start of Autumn), at the time of Wu Geng (approx. 3-5 AM), draw Jing Hua Shui (first-drawn well water). If every member of the family drinks one cup, the whole family can be spared from malaria, dysentery, and all related diseases.
Tu Chao Bai Zhu (Earth-fried Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Jie Cai Zi (Brassicae Chinensis Semen) each 3 qian, Gan Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) 2 qian, Jiang Ban Xia (Ginger-processed Pinelliae Tuber) 1 qian, decocted in water; three doses will lead to recovery.
For chronic malaria-related abdominal masses (Nue Pi) that recur every autumn, taking one or two liang of this medicine can eradicate the root cause. It can also be used even if administered several days after the initial onset of malaria. Chang Shan (Dichroae Radix) 1 jin is cut into very thin slices, boiled dry with salt and strong vinegar (5 jin), sun-dried for three days, then boiled twice more and sun-dried again, finally ground into fine powder. Ji Xin Bing Lang (Arecae Seed with Heart Shape) 0.5 jin is also ground into fine powder. The two ingredients are mixed uniformly, formed into pills the size of tung tree seeds using rice flour paste prepared with vinegar. Each dose is 3 qian; children should take half.
Ben Cong Cong Xin Ji Zhu (Annotations on Bencao Congxin) states: Huo Luan (Cholera-like syndrome) presents as either cold or heat syndromes. When this disease strikes suddenly and the pulse diagnosis is unclear, one must not lightly administer remedies that are excessively hot or cold. Cases have been seen where patients died immediately after drinking ginger soup. For all types of Huo Luan, boiling hot water, rice, porridge, ginger, and pepper (hot foods) are strictly contraindicated; consumption leads to untreatable conditions. Vomiting and diarrhea occurring simultaneously is called Shi Huo Luan (Damp Cholera), which is relatively easy to treat. However, severe heart and abdominal colic without vomiting or diarrhea is called Gan Huo Luan (Dry Cholera), which is most dangerous; slight delay often results in death. Regardless of the severity, refer to Volume 15 regarding Huo Luan: use a sharp shard of porcelain to prick the Shao Shang (LU11) and Wei Zhong (BL40) acupoints until bleeding occurs, and the patient will recover. This method is truly infallible and is the first, simplest, and miraculous external treatment for various Huo Luan symptoms and intestinal colic, having repeatedly shown remarkable effects. Using a sharp porcelain needle to slightly pierce the skin until blood appears causes no pain and can instantly revive the dying; its efficacy surpasses that of herbal medicine and acts faster. I urge the old, young, men, and women not to doubt or fear, but to widely disseminate this method, accumulating boundless merit. In remote villages, during sudden late-night emergencies when medicine is unavailable, the benefit received is indeed profound.
