Thirty-seven cloves (Syzygium aromaticum), and twenty-seven white lotus seeds (Nelumbinis Semen) with the hearts removed, are boiled together until soft. The dregs are strained out, one piece of baked ginger is added, along with half a sheng of glutinous rice, to cook into a porridge. Eating this will stop hiccups.
One he of fresh ginger juice, extracted by crushing fresh ginger, is mixed with one spoonful of honey and taken warm.
Various symptoms of abdominal pain should be cross-referenced with the section on Cold Damage (Shanghan). Pain above the navel is food stagnation pain. Pain below the navel that does not hurt upon pressure by a warm hand, or pain that is sudden, knife-like, accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea, or severe pain with a sensation of cold air, all indicate cold pain. Pain that worsens upon pressure, does not improve with cold compresses, radiates upward from below, comes and goes intermittently, or presents with a hard, knotted fullness of the abdomen, all indicate heat pain. Intermittent pain fixed in one location without moving, or accompanied by a hard mass, indicates worm pain or stasis pain. Additionally, pain triggered by the aroma of fried foods, accompanied by spitting clear saliva or thirst during pain episodes, also indicates worm pain.
After sexual intercourse, if exposed to external wind-cold or ingesting internal raw/cold substances, leading to abdominal pain, retraction of the scrotum (colloquially called follicle sac), or even non-retraction, with flexed hands and feet turning purple-black, and in severe cases, locked jaw and cessation of breath, this is termed Yin Syndrome Cold Damage. Treatment methods are found in Volume 14, Section on Cold Damage.
Refer to various formulas for treating Yin Syndrome Cold Damage. Alternatively, apply hot roasted salt, hot roasted green onion and ginger, hot ashes, or a pot of boiling water wrapped in cloth as compresses; these are all effective methods for relieving pain.
Another formula: Drink pepper soup mixed with sugar (do not add salt). Or drink ginger soup; both are excellent.
Another formula: Burn longan fruit with shell until carbonized (preserving its nature), grind into powder, and take with wine. This has been repeatedly tested and proven effective.
Another formula: Three qian of Baishao (White Peony Root), one qian each of Gancao (Licorice Root) and Rougui (Cinnamon Bark), decocted in water and taken orally. This is a divine formula by Zhang Zhongjing.
The abdomen is prone to cold invasion, often resulting in unceasing pain. If cold penetrates the Three Yin meridians, life is in imminent danger, and delay makes rescue difficult. This is due to deficiency in the lower body, insufficiency of True Yang, and weak fire of the Mingmen (Gate of Life). Some individuals suffer from abdominal aversion to cold; applying Fugui Gao (Aconite and Cinnamon Plaster) to the upper abdomen and wearing several layers of thick cotton waist wraps still proves ineffective when exposed to cold. An old physician prescribed five qian of Zhi Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Lateralis Radix), five fen of Shang Rougui (Superior Cinnamon Bark, ground into powder and taken with the decoction; if unavailable, it may be omitted), and one qian of Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), decocted in water and taken continuously...
Another formula: Take Jiuzhi Liuhuang Wan (Nine-Processed Sulfur Pills) (see Internal and External Reserve Formulas); the effect is miraculous.
