Cold limbs are the most severe symptom. Immediately examine the gum roots for small blisters resembling millet grains, puncture them according to the previous method, gently wipe away the foul blood without letting the infant swallow it, and then treat with the formulas mentioned earlier; this yields the most miraculous effect.
Heavy tongue (zhong she) and wooden tongue (mu she) refer to a tongue-like growth under the tongue; do not injure it with knives or scissors. It is suitable to use bamboo sap (Zhuli) to mix with raw powder of Rhizoma Polygoni Cuspidati (Puhuang), applying it evenly under the tongue for divine efficacy. Alternatively, burn hair into ash, take 5 fen, and apply it.
Furthermore, for heavy tongue caused by fetal toxin, Ma Ya (white spots on gums), swollen gum roots, and inability to suckle milk: at sunrise, chop the mulberry tree two or three times with a knife; soon mulberry sap will flow out. Take the sap, mix with a little honey, and apply it; immediate recovery occurs. This formula also treats umbilical convulsion (Qi Feng), thrush (E Kou), and sores in the mouth and tongue with extreme efficacy. For newborns, frequent observation is necessary; always keep the mouth clean. If any abnormality arises, frequently apply mulberry sap to prevent tongue stiffness and tightness, which could gradually develop into Ju Kou (infant lockjaw), making it difficult to treat.
Use white lead powder (Hufen) mixed with old wall earth from the east side, ground into powder, and applied.
Water dragon bone (Shui Long Gu, referring to old oil and calcined stone from ship bottom seams) 1 liang, Borax (Pengsha) 2 qian 5 fen, grind together into a uniform powder. Use a small amount each time, blowing it in with a goose feather tube.
Lead oxide (Huang Dan, fired until red), Mung bean (Lü Dou), and Alum (Bai Fan), each 1 qian, grind together into powder, mix with saliva, and apply.
This refers to the fontanelle not closing. When an infant's cranial sutures do not close, it is called Jie Lu (split skull). Burn snake slough (She Tui) until charred, grind into powder, mix with marrow from the pig's cheekbone, and apply to the top of the head. Apply three times daily; it will heal naturally over time.
Additionally, for an open fontanelle that does not close, accompanied by nasal congestion: soak Tian Nan Xing, remove the skin, grind into powder, mix with light vinegar, apply to crimson silk fabric, stick to the fontanelle, warm with hands, and frequently moxa/iron with heat for immediate effect.
Additionally, for an infant with a sunken fontanelle: use Ban Xia powder, mix with water, and apply to the sole of the foot; it heals naturally.
Additionally, for an infant with a bulging fontanelle, meaning the fontanelle swells up: use Huang Bo powder, mix with water, and apply to the sole of the foot; the swelling subsides immediately.
Additionally, for an open fontanelle that does not close: use 7 qian of dried ginger (Gan Jiang), 5 qian each of Radix Asari (Xi Xin) and Cinnamomi Cortex (Gui Xin), grind into powder, mix with ginger juice, and apply to the fontanelle. Recovery occurs when the infant's face turns red.
