After pricking all ding sores (carbuncles/furuncles) with a needle, apply this preparation immediately. Take Cinnabar (Zhusha, 朱砂) one qian and Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄) one qian (ground separately into powder), table salt one and a half qian and Alum (Baifan, 白矾) one and a half qian (ground evenly), iron rust (Tiexiu, 铁锈), one Castor Seed (Banshenzi, 蓖麻子) (de-oiled), Dragon's Blood (Dingxiangru, 丁香乳香 - note: text says "Di Ru Xiang" likely referring to Frankincense/Olibanum but context implies specific type or typo for Ru Xiang, here translated as Frankincense/Ruxiang based on common usage in such contexts, though strictly "Di" might imply drop/tear shape, standard is Ruxiang) one fen (de-oiled). Grind them together, or use soft rice or jujube pulp to form small cakes, apply to the ding sore, and cover externally with a plaster.
Another prescription: Scrape off the black spot from the belly of the Ti fish (Shiyu ye, 鲥鱼靥) by hand, keep it away from water, dry in shade, and store for use. When using, open the head of the ding sore with a silver needle, paste a piece of Shiyu ye onto it, and cover with a cooling plaster. Remove after one night; the ding sore will be extracted along with its root. Subsequently, use Shengji San (Flesh-Regenerating Powder) to complete the healing.
I treated two women who had suffered from sores on their big toes for three years without healing, due to the fact that the root of the sore had not been extracted. I took a piece of Shiyu ye, softened it in Jin Yin Hua Tang (Honeysuckle Decoction), wiped it dry, and applied it. They healed within a few days.
This prescription treats all types of red-thread ding (Hongsi Ding), snake-head ding (She Tou Ding), and various ju poisons (ulcers/toxins). Take de-oiled Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香), de-oelled Myrrh (Moyao, 没药), Dragon's Blood (Xuejie, 血竭), Ren Yan (i.e., Arsenic Stone/Pishi, 砒石), Child's Tea (Ercha, 儿茶), and Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄) processed by water-floating method and sun-dried, three qian; Castor Kernel (Bimaren, 蓖麻仁), two qian; tender Pine Rosin (Songxiang, 松香), five qian; Lead Tetroxide (Huandan, 黄丹), one qian (sun-dried); Calomel (Qingfen, 轻粉), five fen. Pound them together until extremely fine.
Another prescription: Take Scolopendra (Yanyou, 蜒蝣 - likely a typo for 蜈蚣 Wugong or similar centipede/scorpion derivative, but literally Yanyou/Scolopendra) five qian, Silver Cinnabar (Yinzhu, 银朱) one qian, Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄) eight fen, Borneol (Bingpian, 冰片) one fen. Pound together into a mud-like paste and apply to the affected area for immediate resolution. Additionally, crush Chrysanthemum leaves (Juhua ye, 菊花叶) to extract juice and drink it; this is highly effective.
This prescription has been tested repeatedly with success, saving countless lives. Take Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄) three qian, Rhubarb (Dahuang, 大黄) three qian, Croton Seed (Badou, 巴豆) (de-heart and de-skin) three qian. The above three ingredients are ground together, pounded heavily into pills, taken in appropriate amounts, and swallowed with hot wine.
Yao Litang stated: Regarding the disease of ding sores, *Waike Zhengzong* (Standardized Surgery) provides the most detailed argumentation, classifying five dings according to five colors, originating from the five zang organs, with the primary formula being Huanglian Jiedu Tang (Coptis Decoction for Detoxification). It is effective for ordinary ding sores. However, there is a specific type of ding occurring on the lip, where the lip swells like a pig's snout, becomes hard without pus, and numerous small yellow blisters appear inside and outside the lip, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, restlessness, and the appearance of seven ominous signs within seven to eight days leading to death. When physicians encounter such cases, if they only prescribe Huanglian Jiedu Tang and Xijiao Dihuang Tang (Rhino Horn and Rehmannia Decoction), it will inevitably lead to Zouhuang (spreading of toxin inward), with less than one in a hundred surviving. Only Zhuiding Duoming Tang (Chasing Ding Life-Rescuing Decoction) and Xiongshi Tang (Realgar and Musk Decoction) are miraculous formulas for treating this type of ding. Following these prescriptions yields frequent remarkable effects.
Zhuiding Duoming Tang: Cicada Slough (Chantui, 蝉蜕) one qian, Green Tangerine Peel (Qingpi, 青皮) one qian, Leaf of Eupatorium (Zelan Ye, 泽兰叶) one qian, Saposhnikovia Root (Fangfeng, 防风) one and a half qian, Coptis Rhizome (Huanglian, 黄连) two qian, Asarum (Xixin, 细辛) three fen, Notopterygium Root (Qianghuo, 羌活) one qian, Stiff Silkworm (Jiangcan, 僵蚕) two qian, Fresh Polygonum Multiflorum Stem (Xian Shouwu, 鲜首乌) two qian, Grass River Car (Hecheshen/Caogechuan, 草河车) and Lotus Node (Oujie, 藕节) each one and a half qian. Add Scallion (Cong, 葱) and Ginger (Jiang, 姜), decoct in water, add one cup of wine, and take orally. After taking, cover with blankets to induce sweating. If constipation occurs, add Raw Rhubarb (Sheng Dahuang, 生大黄) two qian.
Xiongshi Tang: Roots of Viola (Diding Gen/Dadi Ji, 地丁根/大蓟) (i.e., Da Ji, which may have yellow flowers or purple flowers; use either Yellow-flowered Viola or Purple-flowered Viola, washed clean with water) two qian, Angelica Dahurica (Baizhi, 白芷), Oyster Shell (Muli, 牡蛎), Arctium Fruit (Niubangzi, 牛蒡子), Honeysuckle Flower (Jinyinhua, 金银花), Stiff Silkworm (Jiangcan, 僵蚕), Gardenia Fruit (Shanzhi, 山栀), Schizonepeta Spike (Jingjiesui, 荆芥穗), Costus Root (Qingmuxiang, 青木香), Rubia Root (Qiancao Gen, 茜草根) each two qian, Licorice Root (Gancao, 甘草) one qian. Decoct in two bowls of mixture of wine and water until one bowl remains, strain, then add Realgar (Xionghuang, 雄黄) and Frankincense (Ruxiang, 乳香) each one qian, and Musk (Shexiang, 麝香) two fen, all ground finely separately, mix evenly, and take orally. If constipation occurs and the patient is physically robust, add Raw Rhubarb (Sheng Dahuang, 生大黄) two qian and Mirabilite (Mangxiao, 芒硝) one qian. This prescription is contraindicated for pregnant women.
