I previously had the *Shazheng Quanshu* (Complete Book of Sha Syndrome) printed, distributing a thousand copies to others. Those who received this book and treated according to its methods experienced very rapid efficacy; I presume you have all heard of this. However, unfortunately, some individuals with limited literacy mistook the character "gua" (scraping) for "ge" (cutting), arbitrarily using knives to lacerate the skin at the flexures of patients' limbs. They did not know that "scraping" involves using a single copper coin that is smooth, round, and undamaged, or moistening the limb flexures with sesame oil or cool water, and then gently scraping the area with the coin. If it is indeed Sha syndrome, after merely twenty or thirty strokes, purple-black spots will appear on the skin, indicating that the Sha qi has been released. If the illness persists, it signifies deep Sha toxin; in such cases, one should use the edge of a porcelain shard to slightly puncture the skin at these black spots to release dark blood, which will surely alleviate the condition, without the need for a knife. Upon reviewing the original text, there was no general formula for Sha medicine nor the method of pulling Sha. Now, Brother Shi Tieshan gifted me the *Xiaojie Jingshi Bian* (Compilation Warning the World from Calamity), which contains the Sha Medicine Miaoxiang Formula. Additionally, my third brother Qingchen sent the description of the Pulling Sha Method. I have specially included them in this printing and produced another thousand copies to spread their dissemination widely. This book addresses many diseases. I earnestly hope that those who obtain this book will harbor a heart to save the world and revive people, diligently study it in daily life, and prescribe medicines appropriately according to symptoms when needed. Those who recklessly cut with knives should especially store their blades safely to avoid adding to my sins! Recorded again by the Master of Retreat-and-Think Studio on the 9th day of the 3rd month, in the 3rd year of Tongzhi.
Suhe Xiang (Styrax) 1 liang (if unavailable, substitute with Huoxiang [Agastache Herba], dried without exposure to fire); Zhusha (Cinnabar) 4 qian (processed by water levigation); Zinongpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex) 5 qian; Ziheche (Placenta Hominis); Ziye (Perilla Leaf) 2 qian 5 fen; Fen [likely referring to a starch or specific powder ingredient] 3 liang. Process into pills the size of mung beans. The medicinal materials should be aged ones, ground evenly into fine powder, and formed into pills.
In the south during autumn and summer, Sha syndromes are most frequent. I have seen people suddenly fall ill and recover immediately upon undergoing the pulling Sha method without taking medicine. The method involves moistening the skin over the Adam's apple (Jiehou) and both sides (i.e., Daying acupoint LI18), the flexures of both arms (i.e., Quxue acupoint HT3, located in the wrist crease), and the flexures of both legs (i.e., Weizhong acupoint BL40) with water. Then, curl the index and middle fingers into fists and perform the pulling motion. Regarding the Adam's apple and its sides, one must absolutely not use a porcelain shard to puncture. Furthermore, this external treatment is easy to understand and practice, beneficial without harm, and convenient for travelers alongside Sha medicines. By swallowing medicine while simultaneously performing self-pulling Sha with alternating hands, immediate effects are observed. Compared to acupuncture formulas, it is both simple and safe. I urge benevolent gentlemen to pay attention to this.
