When a person encounters biting wind, bitter rain, heavy frost, and great snow on the road, and their clothes become soaked, cold qi enters the zang-organs. This causes yin qi to be closed inside and yang qi to be cut off outside, leading to stagnation and obstruction of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi, which no longer circulate freely.
Therefore, when a person is submerged in water, water enters through the orifices and floods the fu-organs. The qi becomes congested and blocked, resulting in death. If rescued early, draining the water allows the blood and qi to flow smoothly, enabling survival.
Some individuals, whose wills are thwarted, often harbor resentment and may commit suicide by hanging. If discovered early, even if they appear dead, they should be gently lowered or lifted. Although their Yin and Yang meridians are suddenly obstructed, the true qi of the zang-organs has not yet completely dissipated.
During sleep, the Hun and Po spirits wander outward and may be oppressed by evil influences (nightmares). For those with weak spirit, oppression leads to prolonged inability to wake, potentially causing qi exhaustion. Therefore, assistance from bystanders to call out and the application of specific methods/formulas are required.
Ancient and modern disease names often differ. In emergencies, searching for references frequently causes doubt and obstruction. Without clear differentiation, how can one guide others? For instance, people commonly refer to "Yin Toxic Cold Damage" as the most severe illness, whereas in reality... [text missing] ... classical formulas and pastes... [text missing] ... masses are often caused by water qi; stroke is treated exclusively with phlegm-resolving herbs; leukorrhea is mistaken for consumptive diseases or Fu Liang (abdominal masses); the root of wind is not distinguished, and stroke is not differentiated from epidemic febrile diseases. This is a common flaw among physicians today. Hence, it is clarified herein.
The *Bing Yuan* states: The Seven Qi are Cold Qi, Heat Qi, Anger Qi, Resentment Qi (Qi of indignation), Joy Qi, Worry Qi, and Sorrow Qi. These seven types of qi accumulate and become hard and large like a cup. If accumulated in the epigastrium or abdomen, it causes pain... [text missing] ... forced anger causes upward rushing of qi that is unbearable; heat qi causes pain rushing up to the heart, shortness of breath, feeling of impending death, and inability to breathe; resentment qi accumulates below the heart, causing chest fullness and inability to drink; joy qi prevents rapid walking and prolonged standing; worry qi prevents strenuous activity, causing restlessness at night; sorrow qi causes forgetfulness, inability to recognize people or speech, and misplacing objects such that they cannot be found when sought. Upon hearing urgent sounds, the limbs and hands/feet may spasm and become immobile, resembling illness. This arises from the Seven Qi. In men, sudden onset is often due to irregular diet; in women, it results from postpartum wind strike and other residual ailments.
