When Heaven and Earth were first separated, the dark and yellow hues divided, and the pure and turbid energies differentiated. The harmonious Qi gave rise to humans. Among all things, humans are the most precious, inheriting the measure of Yin and Yang Qi, becoming the spiritual essence of Heaven and Earth. The head corresponds to the Sun and Moon; respiration is like wind and clouds; blood and Qi flow like rivers; hair and nails resemble grass and trees. Although the physical body is inherited from parents, its form takes imagery from Qian (Heaven) and Kun (Earth). Life is so precious; how can it be treated lightly? Therefore, in the way of establishing oneself, helping others comes first; in preserving longevity, treating disease is essential. Herbs possess the power to eliminate pathogens, while acupuncture and moxibustion have the merit of overcoming diseases. To cleanse away evil influences, one should indeed trust in these methods.
The "Mingtang" (Bright Hall) refers to the legacy teachings of the Sages and the canonical texts of the Yellow Emperor. It records the circulation of blood vessels, clarifies the relationship between Yin-Yang Shu-Mu points, exhausts the mysteries of Jing-Luo flow and transmission, and distinguishes the origins of acupoint pathways. It serves as the standard for Zang-Fu organs and acts as the key thoroughfare for meridians. Now, we collect its essence and remove its redundancies, relying on personal observation and evidence. Hand-on practice demonstrates miraculous efficacy; books record disease sources to indicate primary treatments, and diagrams of human forms prevent discrepancies in measurement. Additionally, the Mingtang for children is collected and compiled subsequently, hoping that both young and old may walk the path of safety, and that Huaxia (China) and foreign nations may jointly return to the realm of longevity. (Note: The above text is also recorded in *Taiping Shenghui Fang*.)
Printed in the spring month of Xinhai year during the Zhida era at Huoji Tang in Yanshan.
The *Qibo Mingtang Jing* states: Take eight cun as one chi, and eight fen as one cun. However, because people vary in height and fatness, taking acupoints according to this method is inaccurate. For those with short arms and long bodies, the accuracy of acupoint selection is further compromised.
The Tang Dynasty *Sun Simiao Mingtang Jing* states: Measure one cun using the transverse crease of the first phalanx of the thumb of the patient's left hand if male, or right hand if female. After careful deliberation, regardless of skill level, there is another method: take the distance between the two transverse creases of the second phalanx of the middle finger of the patient's left hand if male, or right hand if female, as one cun. Since adopting this cun method for administering moxibustion to treat diseases, most illnesses have been cured. This method has a standard and is now established as the fixed rule.
Whenever performing moxa point marking, the body must be kept straight, and the limbs should not be curled. When marking points while sitting, the body should not lean forward or backward; when marking points while standing, the body should not tilt to either side. If the acupoint location is incorrect during moxibustion,
