《素问》云∶目得血而能视，手得血而能握，其证足厥阴之经络所主。肝脏受虚而
即补肾，实而即泻心。
夫人之眼目者，似天地之日月也。若人无双目，岂能辨别贤愚，天无日月，万物安得
照耀。是故眼通五脏，气贯五轮，外应肝候。肝藏虚而风邪郁，风邪郁而热蕴冲，火炎上行，
故攻目，目昏渗涩，疼痛赤丝皆发。营卫实则能视，营卫虚则昏暗。凡人餐热物，或嗜五
辛，坐湿当风，凌寒冒暑，将息失度，皆丧目之源也。
黄连膏 治一切眼目痛，瘀肉攀睛，风痒泪落不止。
朴硝（一斗，以水半斗，淘净去土，阴干用） 黄连（半斤） 白丁香（五升，以水
一斗，淘净去土，搅细用）
上取水，入硝、香，釜内熬至七分，淘出，令经宿，水面浮牙者，取出，控干，以纸袋
子盛，风中悬至风化，将黄连细末熬清汁，晒干，稍用猪羊胆和，加蜜妙，点之妙矣。
涤昏膏 治一切风眼疼痛，不可忍者，洗之妙矣。
好崖蜜（一斤） 黄连（一两） 没药（半两） 黄丹（一两，炮紫色）
上入蜜，同熬黑，煎黄连成稠汁、黄丹入药内，煎熬稠，更入没药末，同熬数
沸，滤去滓，洗。甚妙！后更用通天散 鼻。
通天散 治偏正头疼并脑风，通一切壅滞，明目。
赤芍药 川芎 黄连 黄芩 玄胡索 草乌头 当归 乳香（别研，各等分）
上为细末，每服少许，纸捻子蘸药，任之鼻 。神效！
神芎散 治风热上攻，头目眩痛，上壅鼻塞眼昏，并牙齿闷痛。
川芎 郁金（各二钱） 荆芥穗（一分） 薄荷叶（一分） 盆硝（二钱） 红豆（一钱。以
上为细末，后入盆硝）
上研匀，鼻内 三两耳剜。力慢加药。病甚者，兼夜 之。
凡热多风少，随证选用诸药。
金丝膏 治一切目疾，昏暗如纱罗所遮，或疼或痛。
宣黄连（半两，锉碎，水一盏，浸一宿，取汁，再添水半盏浸滓，经本日许，取汁，
与前汁放，别用，水半盏） 蜜（一两） 白矾（一字） 井盐（一分。如无，以青盐代之）
山栀子（二钱，好者，捶碎，与黄连滓同煮五七十沸，取尽力了，滤去滓，与前黄连汁一处，
入余药）
上用银瓷器内同熬十余沸，用生绢，上细纸数重，再滤过用。时常点。
白药子散 治一切疳眼烂目生翳，眼内外障，赤疾，并小儿吐利疳泻。
白药子（一两） 甘草（半两）
上为末，用猪肝一叶，批开，糁药五钱，水一大盏，煮熟，食后服。
胡黄连散 治一切久新赤目疼痛，不能坐卧，并大小人口疮。
胡黄连 槟榔（各半两） 麝香（少许，别研）
上为细末，研细点之。如口疮，每服半钱，麝香一字，匀口疮大小贴之。忌食鱼猪油腻物。
碧霞丹 点一切恶眼风赤者。
龙脑 麝香 砂（各二钱） 血竭 没药 乳香 铜青（各一钱） 鹏砂（三钱）
上为末，滴水和丸，如桐子大，每服一丸，新汲水化开，点之立效。
菩萨散 治远年近日一切眼疾。
菩萨石 金精石 银金石 太阴石 太阳石 雨余石 河洛石 矾矿石 云母石 炉甘石
井泉石 白滑石 紫英石 寒水石 阳起石 猪牙石 代赭石 碧霞石 乌鱼骨 青盐（各一两）

上为细末，以井花水九大碗，熬就作四碗。点水内落下钱许大不散，可，如散者，再熬。
滤滓，过露，旋点。
石膏羌活散 治久患双目不睹光明，远年近日，内外气障风昏暗，拳毛倒睫，一切眼疾。
羌活（治脑热头风） 密蒙花（治羞明怕日） 木贼（退翳障） 香白芷（清利头目）
细辛 干菜子（二味起倒睫） 麻子（起拳毛） 川芎（治头痛） 苍术（明目，暖水藏）
甘菊花 荆芥穗（治目中生疮） 黄芩（洗心退热） 石膏（二味） 本（治偏正头痛）
甘草（解诸药毒。各等分）
上为末，每服一钱至二钱，食后临卧，用蜜水一盏调下，或清茶、或淘米第二遍泔亦
得，日进三服。至十日渐明，服至二十日大验。此方医数十余人矣。
重明散 治一切风热内外障气眼疾。
川独活 川羌活 川芎 吴射干 仙灵脾 防风 甘草 井泉石 苍术（各半两） 丹参
白术 石决明（各三钱）
上为末，每服二钱，水一盏半，煎至一盏，温服，日进二服，食后。
雷岩丸 治男子妇人肝经不足，风邪内乘上攻，眼暗泪出，羞明怕日，多见黑花，生障
遮睛，睑生风粟，或痒或痛，隐涩难开，兼久患偏正头疼，牵引两目，渐觉细小，视物不明。
皆因肾水不能溉济于肝木。此药久服，大补肾脏，添目力。
肉苁蓉（一两） 牛膝（一两） 巴豆（一两，浸一宿，去皮心） 菊花（二两） 黑附子（一
两，去皮脐，青盐二钱，以河水三升，同煮，为度） 枸杞子（二两） 川椒（三两，去目）
上为末，元浸药，酒煮面糊为丸，如桐子大，每服十丸，空心，酒下。世人服药，不知
多少根源，往往不效耳。
丁香复光丸 治一切远近目疾。
丁香（二钱） 巴豆（一钱，去皮油） 半夏（二两） 乌梅（半两，去核） 南硼砂（三钱）
脑子（二钱） 盆硝（半两） 缩砂仁（二钱半） 甘草（半两） 荆芥穗（二钱）
上为末，醋煮面糊为丸，如绿豆大，每服十丸至十五丸，米泔下，食后，日三服。
以上诸方，系先生亲验，可录。
《素问》说：眼睛得到血的滋养就能看见，手得到血的滋养就能握持，这些症状由足厥阴肝经的经络所主管。肝脏如果处于虚证就补肾，处于实证就泻心。
人的眼目，就像天地的日月一样。如果人没有双眼，怎么能辨别贤良与愚笨？天空如果没有日月，万物怎能得到照耀？因此，眼睛通连五脏，气脉贯穿五轮（指瞳仁、黑睛、白睛、内外眦的血络、眼睑等部位），外部对应肝脏的征候。肝藏血而虚弱时风邪郁结，风邪郁结则热蕴冲逆，火势炎上，所以攻冲眼部，导致视物昏花、流泪涩痛、疼痛及赤丝红脉等症状都发作。营卫之气充实就能视物清晰，营卫之气虚弱就会视物昏暗。凡人食用热性食物，或嗜好五种辛味食物，坐在潮湿处当风，冒犯寒冷或酷暑，调养失度，都是丧失视力根源的原因。
黄连膏：治疗各种眼目疼痛，瘀肉攀睛（翼状胬肉），风痒泪下不止。
朴硝（一斗，用半斗水淘洗干净去土，阴干备用） 黄连（半斤） 白丁香（五升，用一斗水淘洗干净去土，搅细备用）
以上取水，加入硝石、白丁香，在釜内熬至剩余七分，过滤取出，放置过夜，水面浮起结晶物的，取出，控干水分，用纸袋盛装，悬挂在风中直至风化。将黄连研成细末，用其清汁熬制，晒干后，稍加猪羊胆汁调和，再加蜂蜜调匀，点眼效果极佳。
涤昏膏：治疗各种风邪引起的眼痛，难以忍受者，清洗患处效果极佳。
好崖蜜（一斤） 黄连（一两） 没药（半两） 黄丹（一两，炮制至紫色）
以上加入蜂蜜，一同熬至黑色，煎煮黄连成稠汁，加入黄丹入药内，煎熬至稠厚，再加入没药末，一同熬煮数沸，滤去药渣，用于清洗。非常奇妙！之后更可用通天散吹鼻。
通天散：治疗偏头痛和正头痛以及脑风，通治各种壅滞，明目。
赤芍药 川芎 黄连 黄芩 玄胡索 草乌头 当归 乳香（单独研磨，各等分）
以上研为细末，每次服用少许，用纸捻蘸取药物，任其插入鼻孔。神效！
神芎散：治疗风热上攻，头目眩晕疼痛，上部壅塞鼻塞眼昏，以及牙齿闷痛。
川芎 郁金（各二钱） 荆芥穗（一分） 薄荷叶（一分） 盆硝（二钱） 红豆（一钱。以上研为细末，后加入盆硝）
以上研匀，吹入鼻腔少许即可。力度慢可加药。病重者，兼夜间使用。
凡是热多风少的情况，随证选用上述诸药。
金丝膏：治疗各种眼疾，视物昏暗如被纱罗遮挡，或疼或痛。
宣黄连（半两，锉碎，用水一盏，浸泡一夜，取汁，再添水半盏浸泡药渣，经过半天左右，取汁，与前汁分开存放，另用水半盏） 蜜（一两） 白矾（一字量） 井盐（一分。如果没有，用青盐代替）
山栀子（二钱，选好的，捶碎，与黄连药渣同煮五七十沸，取尽药力，滤去药渣，与前黄连汁混合，加入其余药物）
以上用银瓷器皿一同熬煮十余沸，用生绢，上面铺数层细纸，再次过滤后使用。时常点眼。
白药子散：治疗各种疳积引起的眼烂生翳，眼内外障，赤脉疾，以及小儿吐利疳泻。
白药子（一两） 甘草（半两）
以上研为末，用猪肝一叶，剖开，撒入药末五钱，用水一大盏，煮熟，饭后服用。
胡黄连散：治疗各种新旧赤目疼痛，不能坐卧，以及大小人口疮。
胡黄连 槟榔（各半两） 麝香（少许，单独研磨）
以上研为细末，研细后点眼。如果是口疮，每次服用半钱，麝香一字量，均匀贴敷于口疮大小处。忌食鱼猪油腻之物。
碧霞丹：点涂各种恶眼风赤者。
龙脑 麝香 砂（各二钱） 血竭 没药 乳香 铜青（各一钱） 鹏砂（三钱）
以上研为末，滴水泛丸，如梧桐子大，每次服用一丸，新汲水化开，点眼立效。
菩萨散：治疗远年近日一切眼疾。

石膏羌活散：治疗久患双目看不见光明，远年近日，内外气障风昏暗，拳毛倒睫，各种眼疾。
羌活（治脑热头风） 密蒙花（治羞明怕日） 木贼（退翳障） 香白芷（清利头目） 细辛 干菜子（二味起倒睫） 麻子（起拳毛） 川芎（治头痛） 苍术（明目，暖水脏即补肾） 甘菊花 荆芥穗（治目中生疮） 黄芩（洗心退热） 石膏（二味） 本（治偏正头痛） 甘草（解诸药毒。各等分）
以上研为末，每次服用一钱至二钱，饭后临睡前，用蜜水一盏调服，或用清茶、或第二遍淘米水也可以，每日进服三次。服药十日日渐明亮，服药二十日效果显著。此方已医治数十人了。
重明散：治疗各种风热内外障气眼疾。

The *Suwen* (Basic Questions) states: The eyes can see when nourished by blood, and the hands can grasp when nourished by blood; these manifestations are governed by the meridians of the Foot Jueyin Liver Channel. When the Liver is deficient, tonify the Kidney; when the Liver is excess, drain the Heart.
Human eyes are akin to the sun and moon in heaven and earth. Without two eyes, how could one distinguish between the wise and the foolish? Without the sun and moon in the sky, how could all things be illuminated? Therefore, the eyes connect with the Five Viscera, Qi penetrates the Five Wheels (referring to the pupil, cornea, sclera, canthi, and eyelids), and externally corresponds to the Liver's signs. When the Liver stores blood but becomes deficient, Wind-Evil stagnates; when Wind-Evil stagnates, Heat accumulates and surges upward; when Fire flares up, it attacks the eyes, causing blurred vision, tearing, astringency, pain, and the emergence of red filaments. When Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) are substantial, vision is clear; when Ying and Wei are deficient, vision is dim. Consuming hot foods, indulging in the five pungent flavors, sitting in dampness while exposed to wind, braving cold or summer heat, and improper self-care are all sources that destroy vision.
Huanglian Ointment: Treats all eye pains, pterygium (fleshy growth overgrowing the cornea), and continuous tearing due to wind-itch.
Piao Xiao (Mirabilite, 1 dou, washed clean with half a dou of water to remove soil, dried in shade); Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 0.5 jin); Bai Dingxiang (White Sparrow Droppings, 5 sheng, washed clean with one dou of water to remove soil, stirred fine).
Take water, add Piao Xiao and Bai Dingxiang, boil in a cauldron until three-tenths remain, filter out, let stand overnight. Collect the crystals floating on the surface, drain dry, store in a paper bag, and hang in the wind until weathered. Grind Huanglian into fine powder, decoct its clear juice, dry it, mix slightly with pig or sheep bile, add honey, and apply to the eyes for excellent results.
Dihun Ointment: Treats all wind-induced eye pains that are unbearable; washing with this is highly effective.
Hao Yami (Good Cliff Honey, 1 jin); Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 1 liang); Moyao (Myrrh, 0.5 liang); Huangdan (Lead Monoxide, 1 liang, processed to purple).
Add honey, boil together until black. Decoct Huanglian into a thick juice, add Huangdan to the medicine, boil until thick, then add Moyao powder, boil a few more times, filter dregs, and wash. Very wonderful! Afterwards, use Tongtian San insufflated into the nose.
Tongtian San: Treats lateral and frontal headaches as well as Brain Wind, clears all obstructions, and brightens the eyes.
Chishao Yao (Red Peony Root); Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome); Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome); Huangqin (Scutellaria Root); Xuanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizome); Caowutou (Aconitum Carmichaelii Lateral Root); Danggui (Angelica Sinensis Root); Ruxiang (Frankincense, separately ground, equal parts).
Grind into fine powder. Take a small amount each time, dip a paper twist in the medicine, and insert into the nostril at will. Divine efficacy!
Shenxiong San: Treats Wind-Heat attacking upward, causing dizziness and pain in the head and eyes, upper obstruction with nasal congestion and blurred vision, and dull toothache.
Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome); Yujin (Turmeric Tuber) (each 2 qian); Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike) (1 fen); Bohe Ye (Mint Leaf) (1 fen); Penxiao (Saltpeter, 2 qian); Hongdou (Red Bean, 1 qian. Grind the above into fine powder, then add Penxiao).
Grind evenly, insufflate a small amount into the nose. If the effect is slow, increase the dose. For severe cases, use at night as well.
For conditions where Heat is predominant and Wind is scant, select from the above formulas according to the syndrome.
Jinsi Ointment: Treats all eye diseases, where vision is dim as if covered by gauze, or painful/tender.
Xuan Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome, 0.5 liang, crushed, soaked in one cup of water overnight, extract juice, add half a cup of water to soak the dregs again, wait half a day, extract juice, set aside separately from the first juice); Mi (Honey, 1 liang); Baifan (Alum, one character measure); Jingyan (Well Salt, 1 fen. If unavailable, substitute with Qingyan/Green Salt).
Shanzhizi (Gardenia Fruit, 2 qian, select good ones, crush, boil together with Huanglian dregs for 50-70 boils, extract all potency, filter dregs, mix with the previous Huanglian juice, add remaining medicines).
Boil together in a silver or porcelain vessel for more than ten boils. Filter through raw silk layered with several sheets of fine paper. Apply frequently to the eyes.
Baiyaozi San: Treats all Gan-eye (malnutrition-related eye disease) with rotting eyes and nebula formation, internal and external cataracts, red eye diseases, and pediatric vomiting/diarrhea due to Gan accumulation.
Baiyaozi (Polygonum multiflorum Caulis, 1 liang); Gancao (Licorice Root, 0.5 liang).
Grind into powder. Take one leaf of pork liver, slice open, sprinkle 5 qian of medicine inside, cook with one large cup of water, take after meals.
Huhuanglian San: Treats all chronic or acute red eyes with pain, inability to sit or lie down, and oral ulcers in adults and children.
Huhuanglian (Picrorhiza Rhizome); Binglang (Areca Seed) (each 0.5 liang); Shexiang (Musk, a little, separately ground).
Grind into fine powder, grind finely, and apply to the eyes. For oral ulcers, take 0.5 qian each time, apply a character measure of Musk evenly to the size of the ulcer. Avoid fish, pork, and greasy foods.
Bixia Dan: Apply to all malignant wind-red eyes.
Longnao (Borneol); Shexiang (Musk); Sha (Realgar, each 2 qian); Xuexie (Dragon's Blood); Moyao (Myrrh); Ruxiang (Frankincense); Tongqing (Malachite, each 1 qian); Pengsha (Arsenic Trioxide, 3 qian).
Grind into powder, drop water to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take one pill each time, dissolve in fresh drawn water, and apply to the eyes for immediate effect.
Pusa San: Treats all eye diseases, whether long-standing or recent.
Pusa Shi; Jinjing Shi; Yinjin Shi; Taiyin Shi; Taiyang Shi; Yuyu Shi; Heluo Shi; Fankuang Shi; Yunmu Shi; Lugan Shi; Jingquan Shi; Baihuashi; Ziying Shi; Hanshui Shi; Yangqi Shi; Zhuya Shi; Daizhe Shi; Bixia Shi; Wuyu Gu (Cuttlefish Bone); Qingyan (Green Salt) (each 1 liang); Sha (Realgar, 0.5 liang); Mituosen (Litharge, 1 liang); Tongqing (Malachite, 1 liang); Huangdan (Lead Monoxide, 4 liang); Shexiang (Musk); Naozi (Borneol) (each 1 qian); Qingfen (Calomel, 1.5 qian); Pengsha (Arsenic Trioxide, 3 qian); Ruxiang (Frankincense, 2 qian); Xiongdan (Bear Gallbladder, 1 jin); Baisha Mi (White Sand Honey, 2 jin).
Grind into fine powder. Use nine bowls of well flower water, boil down to four bowls. It is ready when a drop falls into water forming a coin-sized ball without dispersing; if it disperses, boil further. Filter dregs, expose to dew, and apply as needed.
Shigao Qianghuo San: Treats long-term blindness, distant and recent internal/external Qi obstruction and wind-induced dimness, trichiasis (in-turned eyelashes), and all eye diseases.
Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome) (treats brain heat and headache); Mimenghua (Primula Flower) (treats photophobia); Muze (Equisetum Hiemale) (reduces nebula); Xiangbaizhi (Angelica Dahurica Root) (clears and benefits head and eyes); Xixin (Asarum Root); Ganshaizi (Brassica Napus Seed) (these two reverse trichiasis); Maziren (Hemp Seed) (everts curled lashes); Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome) (treats headache); Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) (brightens eyes, warms Water Viscera/Kidneys); Ganjuhua (Chrysanthemum Flower); Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike) (treats sores in eyes); Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) (cleanses Heart and reduces heat); Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (two ingredients); Ben Cao (Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome) (treats lateral/frontal headache); Gancao (Licorice Root) (detoxifies all medicines). Equal parts.
Grind into powder. Take 1-2 qian each time, after meals and before bed, mixed with one cup of honey water, or clear tea, or the second rinse of rice water. Take three doses daily. Vision gradually clarifies after ten days; significant effect after twenty days. This formula has treated dozens of people.
Chongming San: Treats all wind-heat internal/external obstruction Qi eye diseases.
Chuan Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens Root); Chuan Qianghuo (Notopterygium Rhizome); Chuanxiong (Szechwan Lovage Rhizome); Wu Shegan (Belamcanda Rhizome); Xianlingpi (Epimedium Herb); Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root); Gancao (Licorice Root); Jingquan Shi (Spring Stone); Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome) (each 0.5 liang); Danshen (Salvia Root); Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome); Shijueming (Concha Arcae) (each 3 qian).
Grind into powder. Take 2 qian each time, with one and a half cups of water, decoct to one cup, take warm, twice daily after meals.
Leiyan Wan: Treats men and women with Liver Channel deficiency, internal invasion of Wind-Evil attacking upward, causing dim vision, tearing, photophobia, frequent seeing of black spots, cataracts obscuring the pupil, wind millet on eyelids, itching or pain, difficulty opening eyes due to astringency, combined with long-standing lateral/frontal headaches radiating to both eyes, gradual narrowing of vision, and unclear sight. All caused by Kidney Water failing to nourish Liver Wood. Long-term use of this medicine greatly tonifies the Kidney and enhances vision.
Roucongrong (Cistanche Stem); Niuxi (Achyranthes Root); Badou (Croton Seed, 1 liang, soaked overnight, peel and remove heart); Juhua (Chrysanthemum Flower, 2 liang); Heifuzi (Black Aconite Root, 1 liang, peel skin and navel, with 2 qian Green Salt, boil in three sheng river water until done); Gouqizi (Goji Berry, 2 liang); Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper, 3 liang, remove seeds).
Grind into powder. Use the original soaking liquid, boil with flour paste to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take ten pills each time, fasting, with wine. People often fail because they do not know the root causes.
Dingxiang Fuguang Wan: Treats all near and far eye diseases.
Dingxiang (Clove, 2 qian); Badou (Croton Seed, 1 qian, peel and remove oil); Banxia (Pinellia Tuber, 2 liang); Wumei (Mume Fruit, 0.5 liang, remove pit); Nan Pengsha (Southern Arsenic Trioxide, 3 qian); Naozi (Borneol, 2 qian); Penxiao (Saltpeter, 0.5 liang); Suosharen (Amomum Fruit, 2.5 qian); Gancao (Licorice Root, 0.5 liang); Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike, 2 qian).
Grind into powder, boil with vinegar and flour paste to make pills the size of mung beans. Take 10-15 pills each time, with rice wash water, after meals, three times daily.
