Zhang (Left): Contracted the pathogenic factor of seasonal qi, which invaded the exterior level. Dampness and food stagnation mutually obstructed the intestines and stomach, causing confusion between clear and turbid qi. This resulted in alternating chills and fever, absence of sweating, generalized body ache, chest tightness with nausea, borborygmus, diarrhea occurring more than ten times a day, difficult urination, greasy tongue coating, and floating pulse. This is a disease involving both the exterior and interior; do not underestimate it. Following the intention of Yu Jia Yan's "pulling the boat against the current," Canglin Decoction is prescribed with modifications to release the exterior pathogen and transform damp-stagnation.
Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica), 1.5 qian; Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), 1 qian; Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix) and Duhuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), 1 qian each; Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), 1 qian; Chao Zhike (Aurantii Fructus Pericarpium, stir-fried), 1 qian; Chi Ling (Poria Cocos with Red Hosta Root), 3 qian; Xian Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, processed), 2 qian; Liushenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), 3 qian; Jiao Zhacaotan (Crataegi Fructus Charred), 3 qian; Gan Heye (Nelumbinis Folium, dried), 1 jiao; Chen Cangmi (Oryza Sativa Indica, aged), 4 qian; Bohe (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), 8 fen.
Wu (Left): Cold pathogen combined with dampness caused stagnation, affecting both the spleen and stomach. Clear qi failed to ascend while turbid qi failed to descend, leading to chest tightness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The tongue coating was greasy, and the pulse was slow. Zhengqi Yin is prescribed with modifications to aromatic-transform turbidity and separate yin and yang.
Huoxiang Geng (Agastaches Rhizoma or Pogostemonis Herba stem), Zisu Geng (Perillae Caulis stem), 1.5 qian each; Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), 1 qian; Xian Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, processed), 2 qian; Zhi Chunpu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, processed), 1 qian; Chi Ling (Poria Cocos with Red Hosta Root), 4 qian; Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium), 2 qian; Baokouke (Amomi Fructus Pericarpium), 8 fen; Da Sharen (Amomi Fructus), 8 fen; Liushenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), 3 qian; Jiao Zhacaotan (Crataegi Fructus Charred), 2 qian; Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), 2 slices; Gan Heye (Nelumbinis Folium, dried), 1 jiao.
Additionally, Chunyang Zhengqi Wan (Pure Yang Rectifying Qi Pill), 5 fen, taken orally.
Song (Right): Summerheat-dampness combined with food stagnation obstructed the intestines and stomach, causing abdominal pain and yellow watery diarrhea occurring more than ten times a day. Chest tightness prevented food intake, urine was short and red, mouth was dry with desire to drink. The tongue body was red with yellow coating, and the pulse was soggy and rapid. Treatment should harmonize the middle and separate clarity from turbidity; promoting urination is precisely to solidify the stool.
Wei Gegen (Puerariae Lobatae Radix, baked), 2 qian; Chi Ling (Poria Cocos with Red Hosta Root) and Zhuling (Polypori Umbellati Sclerotium), 3 qian each; Sheng Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, raw), 1.5 qian; Chao Biandouyi (Dolichoris Semen Testa, stir-fried), 3 qian; Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), 1 qian; Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium), 3 qian; Liushenqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata), 3 qian; Chao Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, stir-fried), 3 qian; Chun Shaqke (Amomi Fructus Pericarpium), 8 fen; Liuyisan (Six-to-One Powder, wrapped), 3 qian; Xianglian Wan (Fragrant Coptis Pill, taken orally), 1 qian; Gan Heye (Nelumbinis Folium, dried), 1 jiao; Yinhua Tan (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos Charred), 3 qian.
Wang (Child): Diarrhea has persisted for ten days, accompanied by borborygmus and abdominal distension. The tongue coating is thin yellow with white greasiness at the root. The fingerprint is cyan, reaching the Qi Guan position. The complexion is sallow. This is a disease of the Taiyin Spleen, where the function of healthy transport fails, clear qi does not ascend, and turbid qi condenses. There is fear of transformation into chronic convulsion (Man Jing Feng). Temporarily following the formula of Lizhong Tang with additions.
Sheng Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, raw), 2 qian; Pao Jiangtan (Zingiberis Rhizoma Charred), 4 fen; Shu Fupian (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), 6 fen; Qing Zhi Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), 5 fen; Yun Fuling (Poria Cocos), 2 qian; Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), 1 qian; Wei Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, baked), 5 fen; Jiao Zhacaotan (Crataegi Fructus Charred), 1.5 qian; Chao Hedi (Nelumbinis Nuclei Pedunculus, stir-fried), 3 pieces; Chuai Huaiyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, stir-fried), 3 qian; Zaoxin Huangtu (Caulis Ziziphus Jujubae Ash/Earth), 4 qian, decocted as water substitute.
Zhu (Right): Emaciated with a darkish complexion, possessing a Wood-Fire constitution. Blood deficiency fails to nourish the Liver; Liver Qi rebels horizontally. Invading the Stomach causes vomiting; overcoming the Spleen causes diarrhea. Prolonged diarrhea injures Yin, preventing fluids from ascending, resulting in dry mouth and a peeled tongue. Menstruation has ceased for four months. The pulse is wiry and fine. If prolonged, it will become a consumptive disease. The prescription aims to astringe and soften the Liver, support the Earth, and harmonize the middle.
Zhi Wumei (Mume Fructus, honey-fried), 4 fen; Chen Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus, aged), 5 qian; Da Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, large), 1.5 qian; Yun Fuling (Poria Cocos), 3 qian; Sheng Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, raw), 3 qian; Chuai Huaiyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, stir-fried), 3 qian; Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), 1 qian; Zi Danshen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), 2 qian; Chao Hezipi (Terminaliae Fructus Pericarpium, stir-fried), 5 qian; Chao Yumiqiao (Papaveris Pericarpium, stir-fried), 5 qian; Zaoxin Huangtu (Caulis Ziziphus Jujubae Ash/Earth), 4 qian; Jiao Guya (Setariae Frumentaceae Germinatus, charred), 4 qian.
Decocted with aged rice soup.
After ten doses, vomiting and diarrhea stopped. Added Chao Ludangshen (Codonopsis Radix, stir-fried), 2 qian.
Pei (Left): Wuteng diarrhea (diarrhea before dawn) has lasted for several months. After defecation, there is a sensation of bearing down at the anus. Food intake is poor, body is emaciated with sallow complexion, tongue has no coating, and the pulse is soggy and fine. Mingmen Fire is weak, failing to warm the Spleen Earth. The Spleen lacks healthy transport, and clear qi sinks downward. Buzhong Yiqi Tang is prescribed, combined with Sishen Wan with modifications, to tonify Qi, support Earth, and assist the Lesser Fire.
Chao Ludangshen (Codonopsis Radix, stir-fried), 3 qian; Qing Zhi Huangqi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried), 3 qian; Tu Chao Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, earth-fried), 2 qian; Qing Zhi Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), 5 fen; Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), 1 qian; Chao Buguzhi (Psoraleae Fructus, stir-fried), 1.5 qian; Wei Yizhi (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus, baked), 1.5 qian; Dan Wuyu (Evodiae Fructus, light), 5 fen; Wei Rouguo (Myristicae Semen, baked), 1 qian; Pao Jiangtan (Zingiberis Rhizoma Charred), 8 fen; Guifu Dihuang Wan (Cinnamon and Aconite Rehmannia Pill), 3 qian, taken orally.
Kuang (Child): Diarrhea of yellow water has persisted for over ten days. Mouth and tongue are ulcerated, hindering breastfeeding. The fingerprint is purple, reaching the Qi Guan position. This indicates Spleen Earth is already deficient, with damp-heat accumulating internally. Heat steams upward, dampness flows downward. Excess dampness leads to the five types of diarrhea. The infant is only months old; this is like a small boat carrying a heavy load. Do not underestimate it.
Sheng Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, raw), 1.5 qian; Chuai Huaiyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma, stir-fried), 2 qian; Chi Fuling (Poria Cocos with Red Hosta Root), 3 qian; Chao Biandouyi (Dolichoris Semen Testa, stir-fried), 3 qian; Boheye (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba leaf), 6 fen; Chuan Yalian (Coptidis Rhizoma, Sichuan style), 4 fen; Sheng Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, raw), 4 fen; Jiao Zhacaotan (Crataegi Fructus Charred), 2 qian; Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), 1.5 qian; Gan Heye (Nelumbinis Folium, dried), 1 jiao; Chen Cangmi (Oryza Sativa Indica, aged), 1 he, decocted to cook medicine.
Kuang (Child): Diarrhea is green like indigo, occurring seven to eight times a day. Borborygmus and pain occur. Food intake is low, urine is red. Tongue coating is mixed yellow and white. This is wind pathogen entering the intestines and stomach via the umbilicus, combining with stagnation. Middle Earth fails to transport, and clear and turbid are not separated.
Chao Hei Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, stir-fried black), 1 qian; Chao Hei Jingjie (Schizonepetae Spica, stir-fried black), 1 qian; Sheng Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, raw), 2 qian; Chi Fuling (Poria Cocos with Red Hosta Root), 3 qian; Chao Biandouyi (Dolichoris Semen Testa, stir-fried), 3 qian; Wei Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, baked), 8 fen; Guang Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), 1 qian; Jiao Zhacaotan (Crataegi Fructus Charred), 3 qian; Jijin Tan (Galli Gigerii Endothelium Corneum Charred), 2 qian; Chen Laifuying (Raphani Fructus Caulis, aged), 3 qian; Wuji Wan (Wuji Pill, wrapped), 1 qian.
Tan (Right): Diarrhea of yellow water has lasted a long time. The Kidney governs the two passages. Initially, due to excess dampness, there was soft diarrhea. Subsequently, due to soft diarrhea, Yin was injured. Turbid Yin interfering upward causes facial edema; Clear Yang sinking downward causes foot swelling. Spleen dampness enters the Dai Mai (Belt Vessel); the Dai Mai loses its restraining power, causing frequent leukorrhea. Spleen fluids fail to steam upward, causing internal heat and dry mouth. Floating Yang easily rises, causing dizziness and blurred vision. The waist is the mansion of the Kidney; Kidney deficiency causes backache. The pulse is wiry and fine. The Spleen loses its function of healthy transport; the Stomach lacks the virtue of Kun (receptivity/submission). Ying-Blood deficiency causes Liver dryness; Spleen dampness sinking causes Kidney cold. Shenling Baizhu San is prescribed with modifications to nourish the Stomach, support Earth, and assist Mingmen Fire. It is like adding firewood to the bottom of a pot; the water in the pot will naturally vaporize and rise, nourishing all directions. With sufficient Lesser Fire, appetite increases, True Yin generates naturally, dampness transforms, and deficiency heat calms itself without specific treatment.
Chao Ludangshen (Codonopsis Radix, stir-fried), 3 qian; Huai Shanyao (Dioscoreae Rhizoma), 3 qian; Jiao Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, charred), 3 qian; Muli (Concha Ostreae), 5 qian; Lianpi Fuling (Poria Cocos with peel), 3 qian; Sheng Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, raw), 8 fen; Nong Duzhong (Eucommiae Cortex, concentrated), 3 qian; Hongzao (Jujubae Fructus), 3 pieces; Chao Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried), 2 qian; Shu Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), 2 qian; Longgu (Os Draconis), 3 qian.
Wang (Right): Spleen Earth is weak; damp-stagnation easily stops, causing green watery diarrhea. Wind pathogen invades the Liver; Liver Wood overacts on Spleen. Spleen and Stomach transport and transformation are abnormal. Food intake is low, spirit is fatigued, pulse is soggy and soft. Treatment should support Earth, harmonize the middle, dispel wind, and overcome dampness.
Chao Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried), 2 qian; Yun Fuling (Poria Cocos), 3 qian; Fanzhiqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, Fan style), 3 qian; Zhi Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), 5 fen; Jiao Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, charred), 2 qian; Biandouyi (Dolichoris Semen Testa), 3 qian; Chao Guya (Setariae Frumentaceae Germinatus, stir-fried), 3 qian; Hei Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, blackened), 1.5 qian; Chen Guangpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, aged), 1 qian; Gan Heye (Nelumbinis Folium, dried), 1 jiao.
Wu (Left): Diarrhea injures the Spleen; Spleen Yang is declining. Clear Qi sinks downward. The Spleen governs the four limbs; Yang fails to circulate to the limbs, so Wei Qi cannot defend the exterior and secure the surface. Deficient Yang forces body fluids to leak outward, posing a risk of Yang collapse. Fuzi Lizhong Tang is prescribed, combined with Erjia Longgu Muli Tang.
Shu Fu Kuai (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, chunk), 3 qian; Pao Jiangtan (Zingiberis Rhizoma Charred), 8 fen; Chuan Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus), 1 qian; Fuxiaomai (Tritici Levis Fructus), 3 qian; Jilin Shen (Panax Ginseng, Jilin origin), 1 qian; Yun Fuling (Poria Cocos), 3 qian; Da Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba, large), 2 qian; Chao Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried), 1.5 qian; Zhi Huangqi (Astragali Radix, honey-fried), 3 qian; Longgu (Os Draconis), 3 qian; Zhi Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried), 8 fen; Zhi Shengma (Bupleuri Radix, honey-fried), 5 fen; Muli (Concha Ostreae), 4 qian.
Zhu (Left): Vomiting injures the Stomach; diarrhea injures the Spleen. Both Stomach and Spleen are defeated; healthy transport is abnormal. Wood overacts on Earth position; clear Qi does not ascend, turbid Qi does not descend. Treatment should suppress Wood and support Earth, assisted by herbs that benefit Fire.
Shu Fu Kuai (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, chunk), 1 qian; Yun Fuling (Poria Cocos), 3 qian; Hei Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, blackened), 1.5 qian; Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), 2 slices; Jiao Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, charred), 2 qian; Jiang Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, ginger-processed), 3 qian; Da Sharen (Amomi Fructus), 8 fen; Fanzhiqu (Massa Medicata Fermentata, Fan style), 3 qian; Chao Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra, stir-fried), 3 qian; Guang Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), 1 qian; Wei Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, baked), 5 fen.
