Furuncles occurring at the knees are located above both knees and belong to the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian. They resemble human-faced sores, possessing a cavity-like structure as well as mouth and eye shapes, which is quite terrifying. This condition arises from the downward flow of stagnant heat from the Heart and Liver meridians into the hips and knees, thereby generating this toxic pathogen. It is advisable to use Baidu Liuqi Yin (Detoxifying Qi-Regulating Decoction) for treatment, followed by agents that drain pus and generate flesh. If it remains unhealed after seven or eight years, it may lead to lameness and even endanger life, with severe consequences.

Temporal furuncles (Bin Fa) occur between the two temples. They are common in children and women, but if they occur in men, they are often incurable. This condition is governed by the Hand-Shaoyang, Foot-Shaoyang, and Hand-Taiyin meridians. It arises because of accumulated heat in the Heart and Liver, combined with wind invasion of the head and forehead, thus generating this toxic pathogen. One should clear the heat from these two meridians using Shiyiwei Chaihu Shengma Tang (Eleven-Ingredient Bupleurum and Cimicifuga Decoction).
