The "Five Tinea" (Wu Xuan) refers to damp tinea, stubborn tinea, wind tinea, horse tinea, and cow tinea. (Both scabies and tinea are caused by heat and dryness in the blood level, leading to wind-toxin attacking the skin. Lesions that are superficial are called scabies, while those that are deep-seated are called tinea. Scabies is often accompanied by heat, whereas tinea is often accompanied by dampness.)
Fangfeng Tongsheng San (Saposhnikovia Universal Relief Powder): Treats tinea and scabies. Remove Mangxiao (Mirabilite) and Dahuang (Rhubarb) from the formula, and add Fuping (Duckweed) and Zaojiaoci (Gleditsia Spine). (See the "Stroke" chapter for the full formula details.)
Fuping San (Duckweed Powder): Treats various wind tinea, scabies, and leprosy-like sores.
Ingredients: Fuping (Duckweed), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong), Chi Shaoyao (Red Peony Root), Jingjie (Schizonepeta), Mahuang (Ephedra), Gancao (Licorice) (each 3 qian).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs. Take two doses, add two stalks of Congbai (Scallion White) and 50-60 grains of Douchi (Fermented Soybean), decoct until one-eighth remains. Drink hot to induce sweating.
Treatment for Dry and Damp Tinea:
Ingredients: Xionghuang (Realgar) (1 qian), Banmao (Mylabris) (7 insects), Qingfen (Calomel) (4 fen), Liuhuang (Sulfur) (3 fen), Shechuangzi (Cnidium Fruit) (5 fen), Jinmao Gouji (Rhizoma Cibotii) (5 fen), Hanshuishi (Calcitum) (5 fen), Mangxiao (Mirabilite) (3 fen).
Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder. Mix with Sesame Oil for external application; if it is damp tinea, sprinkle the dry powder directly onto the lesion.
For "Goose Palm Wind" tinea (hyperkeratotic tinea manuum), characterized by peeling skin layers, itching, and pain, washing with this prescription leads to immediate cure.
Ingredients: Chuanwu (Aconitum Carmichaelii Deauxside Root), Caowu (Aconitum Kusnezoffii Root), Heshouwu (Polygonum Multiflorum), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes Root), Chi Shao (Red Peony Root), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Jingjie (Schizonepeta), Cangzhu (Atractylodes Rhizome), Diding (Viola Yedoensis), Aiye (Artemisia Argyi Leaf) (each 1 liang).
Preparation and Administration: Coarsely crush the herbs, decoct in water. First fumigate the affected area with steam, then wash with the liquid for immediate cure.
Another method for treating "Goose Palm Wind" tinea:
Ingredients: Walnut shell (fresh skin preferred) and Bobie feces (Pigeon droppings) in equal proportions. Decoct in water and wash frequently for immediate cure.
Yet another method: Use 1 sheng of Baiyuan Dou (Vigna Umbellata) boiled with Lianzi (Chinaberry seeds). Wash morning, noon, and evening. Cure is achieved after seven washes.
Treatment for "Goose Palm Wind" combined with tinea sores:
Take Heiqian (Black Lead) in any amount, beat into sheets, and boil for the time it takes to burn one incense stick. Add one bowl of Lvdou (Mung Bean), boil until soft, remove dregs, and wash the area several times with the hot liquid for immediate effect. Alternatively, apply as a paste.

Preparation and Administration: Grind into fine powder. Mix with Wugen Water (rainwater/snowwater collected before touching the ground). Simmer in a cooking pot until the mixture turns reddish. Note: Do not scratch the tinea sore open. Avoid contact with water for 7-8 days post-treatment. This yields miraculous effects.
Sublimation Process:
Place one small porcelain jar. Seal with salt mud. Put Xionghuang (Realgar) inside. Cover with a lamp saucer, tie tightly with iron wire, and seal the surroundings with wood ash, charcoal, and mud. Slow-fire roast for half an incense stick's duration. Collect the sublimated yellow substance from the underside of the saucer for use.
