The Kidney governs Yuan Qi (Original Qi), from which Tian Yi (Heavenly One) Water arises; the Lung governs Chong transformation, corresponding to Di Si (Earthly Four) Metal. Yuan Qi is fire within water; thus, the Taiyang channel combines with Shaoyin to govern essence and marrow to nourish blood. Chong transformation is metal within earth; thus, the Taiyin channel combines with Yangming to govern muscles to nourish Qi. Now, Kidney deficiency leads to fire decline, causing Yang Water stagnation; Lung fullness leads to Earth overflow, making Yang Metal sink and subside. Subsidence causes Qi closure, stagnation causes Blood turbidity, meridians become obstructed, manifesting upper as panting and urgency, lower as swelling and fullness. Therefore, the *Classic* states: The Kidney is Shaoyin, the Lung is Taiyin; the root lies in the Kidney, the branch lies in the Lung, both accumulating water due to Extreme Yin. The reason for accumulating water and causing disease is that the Kidney is the gate of the Stomach; if the gate is not smooth and the pivot does not turn, water fails to circulate, infiltrates the meridians, and causes skin edema. Various symptoms differ, widely detailed in the *Classic*. The *Treatment Methods* state: Balancing and weighing refers to observing the floating or sinking of the pulse; removing woody weeds and old vegetation refers to clearing and purging the intestines and stomach; opening the ghost door (sweating) and cleansing the palace (urination) refers to inducing sweating and promoting urination. Tracing the etiology, exposure to wind, cold, summer-heat, and dampness belongs to external causes; anger, joy, worry, and thought belong to internal causes; diet and labor/rest deviating from normal routines belong to neither-internal-nor-external causes, all leading to this disease. Treatment should investigate the etiology and various contraindications to guide therapy.
