Treats Kidney deficiency (Shen Xu), injury caused by wind-lao (Wind-Lao, damage due to wind and overexertion), resulting in toxic swelling with pulling pain, traction to the lower abdomen, and connected lumbar pain.
Tao Ren (Peach Seed) (bran-fried, skin and tip removed)
The above single herb is ground into a fine powder. Each dose consists of four qianbi (a traditional measuring spoon), taken mixed with hot wine; sweating will occur and the condition will be cured.
The *Nan Jing* (Classic of Difficult Issues) discusses the progression of damage from the skin and hair to the sinews and bones, which distinguishes the sequence of depth of Qi and pulses. Tracing the etiology, it belongs to the "neither internal nor external" category (Bu Nei Wai Yin). It may occur when one engages in sexual intercourse before recovery from a major illness, or when sinews and muscles are exhausted by labor, or when diet is irregular regarding hunger and fullness, or when mental energy is overused, or when shouting and running dissipate Qi. Consequently, various symptoms arise like swarms of insects, and hundred diseases occur simultaneously, including hematemesis (vomiting blood), epistaxis (nosebleed), hematochezia (blood in stool), hematuria (blood in urine), spermatorrhea, leukorrhea, cold slippery diarrhea, spontaneous sweating, yellow sweat, vomiting, expectoration of saliva, phlegm, and fluid retention. This causes Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) to depart from their root, leading to emaciation and damage, all starting here, largely because it goes against the normal physiological principles of the human body. Moreover, postpartum women suffer more severe deficiency and depletion than those with major illnesses, a fact that must not be ignored. Listing and discussing these conditions, the manifestations are not singular; tentatively citing a few items serves as preparation for treatment. One must examine pulse patterns, deduce the state of Yuan Qi (Original Qi) and Wei Qi (Stomach Qi), support the beginning and completion (Kidney and Spleen/Stomach functions), assist Yin and Yang, distinguish biao (exterior/symptoms) and ben (interior/root), and certainly should not blindly treat based on the cold or heat of symptoms. The *Yao Lun* states: "Rough physicians laugh carelessly, thinking treatment is possible; while heat has not ceased, cold disease begins again. Same syndrome but different forms, confused Qi disrupts the meridians." Students must be cautious and think deeply to gain spiritual understanding.
Treats Yuan Qi deficiency, abdominal distension and fullness around the umbilicus, stabbing pain in the heart and hypochondrium, dysentery/diarrhea accompanied by vomiting, spontaneous sweating, gradual decline of Yang Qi, and cold extremities;
Also treats Shaoyin Cold Syndrome (Shaoyin Yin Zheng) from Cold Damage (Shanghan), cholera with muscle cramps, chronic cold diarrhea, shortness of breath with emaciation and fatigue, and all deficiency-cold syndromes. (Formula see Self-Sweating Section)
Treats consumption of Essence and Qi, insufficient Blood that fails to increase, and impotence/lack of sexual vigor. Taking this formula harmonizes Ying and Wei, benefits the waist and legs, tonifies Essence and Blood, and primarily treats various deficiencies and hundred diseases.
