To treat the years of Zi and Wu, when Shaoyin Junhuo (Ministerial Fire) governs the Heaven Qi and Yangming Zaojin (Dryness Metal) governs the Earth Qi, patients present with joint stiffness and immobility, lower back pain, Qi stagnation transforming into heat, dysuria, red eyes, heart pain, alternating chills and fever, cough and wheezing; or nasal discharge, vomiting of phlegm-fluid from the throat, jaundice, wheezing, and in severe cases, cold affecting the lower abdomen causing Middle Jiao deficiency-cold. This formula treats all these conditions.

Crush the above herbs into a coarse powder. Take 4 qian per dose, with 1.5 cups of water, decoct until reduced to 0.7 parts, strain, and take before meals. From Dahan (Great Cold) to Chunfen (Spring Equinox), add Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum) and Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae Foetidae), each 0.5 liang; from Chunfen to Xiaoman (Grain Buds), add Fuling (Poria) and Cheqianzi (Semen Plantaginis), each 0.5 liang; from Xiaoman to Dashu (Major Heat), add Xingren (Semen Armeniacae Amarum) and Maren (Semen Cannabis Sativae), each 1 fen; from Dashu to Qiufen (Autumn Equinox), add Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae) and Yinchenhao (Herba Artemisiae Scopariae), each 1 fen; from Qiufen to Xiaoxue (Minor Snow), follow the main formula; from Xiaoxue to Dahan (Great Cold), add Zisuzi (Fructus Perillae Frutescentis), 0.5 liang.
In the years of Si and Hai, Jueyin Fengmu (Wind Wood) governs the Heaven Qi, and Shaoyang Xianghuo (Ministerial Fire) governs the Earth Qi, causing the Qi transformation to operate later than the natural cycle. During the First Qi phase, Yangming Metal adds to Jueyin Wood, and the people suffer from cold in the right hypochondrium. During the Second Qi phase, Taiyang Water adds to Shaoyin Fire, and the people suffer from Heat in the Middle. During the Third Qi phase, Jueyin Wood adds to Shaoyang Fire, and the people suffer from tearing, tinnitus, tremors, and vertigo. During the Fourth Qi phase, Shaoyin Fire adds to Taiyin Earth, and the people suffer from jaundice and elbow swelling. During the Fifth Qi phase, Taiyin Earth adds to Yangming Metal, where dryness and dampness contend, and cold Qi invades the body. During the Final Qi phase, Shaoyang Fire adds to Taiyang Water; this is Lower Water overcoming Upper Fire, and the people suffer from epidemics. The treatment method should use Acrid-Cool substances to level the upper, and Salty-Cold substances to regulate the lower. Beware of the Qi of Fire and do not rashly violate it.
