The patient experiences alternating chills and fever, groaning and yawning, dryness of the mouth and nose, abdominal distension, and pain extending from the lateral aspect of the thigh, knee, and patella down to the dorsum of the foot and into the space between the medial side of the middle toe. This is caused by the flow and accumulation of wind-cold-summerheat-dampness in the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian (Zú Yángmíng Wèi Jīng). The predominance of these four qi follows the explanations given above. Treatment should involve mild purgation according to the predominant pathogenic factor.

For the treatment of wind-cold-summerheat-dampness flowing into the Foot-Yangming Meridian, causing numbness and pain in the waist and legs, difficulty in walking, flooding of saliva with dizziness and obstruction, constipation of both stool and urine, abdominal pain and vomiting, or subsequent diarrhea, aversion to food odor, panting with chest fullness requiring shoulder breathing, spontaneous sweating, and delirium:
Da Huang (Rhubarb Root and Rhizome, steamed), Xi Xin (Asarum, de-seeded), Fu Ling (Poria), Fang Ji (Stephania Root), Qiang Huo (Notopterygium Rhizome), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root), Qian Hu (Peucedanum Root), Zhi Ke (Bitter Orange Fruit, stir-fried with bran, placenta removed), Hou Po (Magnolia Bark, bark removed, cut into pieces, processed with ginger juice, stir-fried), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Xing Ren (Apricot Seed, stir-fried with bran, skin and tip removed, separately ground) — all in equal parts.
Crush these into a powder. For each dose, take four qian (approx. 12-15g), add one and a half bowls of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and one jujube. Decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, and take hot on an empty stomach. If there is abdominal pain, add Bai Shao (White Peony Root); if there is severe constipation, add E Jiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin); if there is panting, add Sang Bai Pi (Mulberry Root Bark) and Zi Su (Perilla Leaf); if there is difficult urination, add Ze Xie (Alisma Rhizome); if there are sores on the limbs with itching and oozing, add Sheng Ma (Cimicifuga Rhizome). All added herbs should be in equal parts.

For treating sores on the shins that spread to the thighs and knees, with dripping pus, heat-bi pain and itching:
Gan He Ye (Dried Lotus Leaf, four leaves), Ben Cao (Ligusticum Rhizome, one fen).
Crush these into a powder. Add two dou of water, decoct until five sheng are reduced, strain, and keep warm. Wash and apply externally; it is also advisable to internally administer the previous Da Huang Zuo Jing Tang.

The patient has a bitter taste in the mouth, frequent sighing, hypochondriac pain, a dirty complexion, lack of luster in the body, pain in the head, jaw, eyes, and Dui acupoint, swelling in the supr clavicular fossa and axilla (known as "horse knife" swelling), spontaneous sweating, chills with fever, and pain in the chest, hypochondrium, lateral thigh and knee, up to the Juegu acupoint, lateral malleolus, and all joints and fingers. This is caused by the flow and accumulation of wind-cold-summerheat-dampness in the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian (Zú Shàoyáng Dǎn Jīng). The predominance of these four qi is similar to the previous explanation. Treatment should involve harmonization according to the predominant pathogenic factor.

For the treatment of wind-cold-summerheat-dampness flowing into the Foot-Shaoyang Meridian, causing fever, waist and hypochondriac pain, headache and vertigo, vomiting of old fluids, deafness, palpitations due to fright, heat oppression and irritability, rebellious qi with panting and chest fullness, shoulder breathing, leg bi with flaccidity and inability to move:
Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber, soaked in water to remove slipperiness), Gan Ge (Kudzu Root), Xi Xin (Asarum), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Fu Ling (Poria), Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Heart, not exposed to fire), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger, processed), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root), Xiao Cao Gan Cao (Licorice Root variant, honey-fried), Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber, heart removed) — each in three qian.
Crush these into a powder. For each dose, take four qian, add one and a half bowls of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and one jujube. Decoct until reduced to seven-tenths, strain, and take on an empty stomach. If there is heat oppression, add Zhu Li (Bamboo Sap), half he per dose; if there is panting and chest fullness, add Xing Ren (Apricot Seed) and Sang Bai Pi (Mulberry Root Bark).
