Application Medicine
Treating Chong She (Double Tongue), which indicates heat in both the Heart and Spleen. The Heart manifests in the tongue, governing blood, while the meridians of the Spleen emerge from under the tongue. If there is heat in the Heart and Spleen, with flourishing Qi and Blood, a new growth may form attached to the root of the tongue, resembling a tongue but shorter and smaller; this is Chong She. If it appears on the inner cheek or upper palate, it is called Chong Tan; if it appears at the gum margin, it is called Chong Duan. In all cases, the stagnant blood should be pricked out. Apply genuine Puhuang (Corydalis Rhizome) powder, or hair ash, or Macha Xiaos (Natrii Sulfas Crystallinus), or apply Yan Xiao (Saltpeter) soaked in Zhuli (Bamboo Juice) with Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex). (Other methods are found in the Major Department of Prescriptions.)
Zixue (Purple Snow)
Treating Mu She (Wooden Tongue). The tongue is the manifestation of the Heart, and the meridians of the Spleen connect to it. When Zang-Fu organs are obstructed and heat accumulates in the Heart and Spleen, hot Qi rushes upward, causing the tongue to swell, gradually enlarging until it fills the mouth; this is termed Mu She. If not treated urgently, it will become fatal. Take one zi (a traditional unit of weight) of finely ground Zixue, and take it mixed with Zhuli (Bamboo Juice). (Prescription found in *Heji Jufang*.)
Another Prescription
Grind Huangshu Kuihua (Hibiscus Mutabilis Flower) into fine powder, add half that amount of Huangdan (Minium), grind them together, and apply it seven times.
Another Prescription
